Oakley Down Barrows submitted by JimChampion on 9th Apr 2005. April 2005. Looking north at four of the bowl barrows in the Oakley Down cemetery from the Ackling Dyke bridleway. These barrows are aligned along an east-west axis from SU016170 to SU018170 at the south of the cemetery. They were excavated by Sir Richard Hoare (an antiquarian in search of antiquaries) in 1803 and yielded cremations.

Over Jerstal Jættestue 1 submitted by holger_rix on 28th Jul 2010. Round Barrow, 3 m x 17 m. From the east side leads an 8 m long passage (uncovered in 1931) into a chamber.
The chamber is 3 m in E-W, 1.50 m br., 1.40 to 1.60 m high.
Chamber is set by six carrying stones, two in the south side,
one in the west end, the north side two long stone, which the west has shifted somewhat and pushed a portion inward, especially at the top.
The entrance from S-E is 0.60 m wide.
Some of the intervals between carrier stones are filled with small stones.

suitable only for 1 year olds and dwarfs.
Round Barrow, 1.75 m - 2,20 m tall, 17-18 m diameter, shape is somewhat
vague and not easy to determine. Top flattened and the surface uneven.
Mound encloses a stone grave, from east a 5.60 m long passage.
Chamber of irregular shape, 4 m long of NE-SW, 2.25 m wide in the middle,
narrower at the ends, 1.60 m high formed of nine stones

Taken from Egypt and placed in the center of Paris. It originaly stood in front of the temple of Luxor, where its twin remains. Similar to Cleopatra's needle in London, there are more captured obelisks of this kind in Central Park New York or Rome etc. It received a Gold cap on the Pyramidon tip for the year 2000.
