Easter Aquhorthies

Easter Aquhorthies submitted by Umbra-man on 20th Mar 2020. 20 Mar 20. This years Spring EQ sunrise. Horizon slightly obscured by cloud, while the rest of the sky was.... 99% clear ! Sub zero by a few degrees made for chilly camera fingers, but even for the ancients this must have been a special place and time of the year. In the Neolithic calendar this is the start of spring. For folk that came later (Celts/Picts/Pagans) this is the season of Imbolc.

Loanhead Of Daviot

Loanhead Of Daviot submitted by Umbra-man on 18th Mar 2020. 19 Jun 18. Midsumme Solstice sunrise. Stone 7 with cup marks. Processed in B and W to bring out some detail. Daviot like many stone circles, is "partially-sighted" due to the proximity of trees blocking out the local Southern Horizon. Thus their relationship with the sun and moon, in relation to the local horizon, is much diminished.... which is a shame.

Midmar Kirk S

Midmar Kirk S submitted by Umbra-man on 18th Mar 2020. 10 Jul 18. Behind the recumbent I found this stone lodged into the bottom right corner. It is hand sized, weighs around a Kg, and seems to me, to be a very obvious cup of some sort. I would be interested if anyone else has found this, or what its purpose may have been.
