Cefn Llanerchi
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 9th Sep 2008
Cefn Llanerchi submitted by TimPrevett on 9th Sep 2008. The fallen stones at Cefn Llanerchi. A good walk up from the reservoir car parking, but an engaging site for the enthusiast. Scan the horizon for prominent distant peaks, look at the proximity of the track... remote feeling, bleak and beautiful.
Worth visiting the Stone Row at Rhos y Gelynen from here, best approached from above - much less boggy!

The Whet Stone (Hergest Ridge)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature
Country: England (Herefordshire)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
The Whet Stone (Hergest Ridge) submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Text from Hanterman: This is not a standing stone as such but a large (2.0m by 1.8m) lump of stone, probably naturaly deposited. From its position atop Hergest Ridge it aquires the most magnificent views to all the known Neolithic and Bronze Age sites in the Walton Basin and Barrows on the surrounding hillsides. though distant some may be. It has many folk tales attached to it from down the centuries. My reason for its inclusion is its alignment with other standing stones on Hergest Ridge and ac...

Broomy Hill Centre
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
Broomy Hill Centre submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Couldn't get close to the stone; some young bullocks were in the field and remained oblivious to our presence, so having popped up over a knoll and observed the situation, I grabbed some shots before ducking out of view again.

Broomy Hill North submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Wasn't sure if this was the broken stone or cairn material; couldn't get closer due to the bullocks... (not in view in this picture - I know those are sheep!)

Llanerch Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
Llanerch Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. The Llanerch Stone - covered in cup marks (not sure if any rings); also thought there could be 2 chevrons and a lozenge shape. The stone is largely covered over to prevent weathering, so we returned the disturbed sods to the stone once we'd had a peep.
Had a long natter with the farmers here too, who know of the stone, and regard it with interest, curiosity and keep an eye out for its wellbeing.

Hindwell Enclosure
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Timber Circle
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
Hindwell Enclosure submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Looking from the lane which partially follows the course of the northern edge of the enclosure, across what would have been its centre; round barrow to the left but hard to make out in this shot. The ploughing goes up to its edge, even arguably upon it.

The Hindwell Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
The Hindwell Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Possible standing stone in a field in the Walton Basin. Given the context of the area, and that it's a matter of metres outside of the northern line of the Hindwell Pallisaded Enclosure, it seems a credible assumption to think it of significance and a part of the amazing ancient landscape now largely lost. Look to the NW for The Whimble hill and to the E for Burfa Bank which are of similar shape to the stone in their outline.

Hindwell Farm 2 submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Spot the round barrow! Nicely shown by the line of the hedge, with the curve of the surviving barrow; this is the day after the All Wales and European Vintage Ploughing Championships. One wonders what a bit of field walking could yield...

Site Type: Museum
Country: Scotland (Midlothian)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Feb 2009
National Museum of Scotland submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Feb 2009. The entrance to the National Museum of Scotland; I only had 40 minutes to zoom around here before closing (having been distracted by the fantastic Greyfriars Churchyard opposite). What I saw was very good, and very family friendly. Edinburgh is one of the most amazing cities I have been to, so a return visit will be in order sometime!

Stanton Moor 1

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Derbyshire)
Visited: Yes on 7th Mar 2009
Stanton Moor 1 submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Mar 2009. With the aid of Paul & Vicky's "Rock Around the Peak" (still unbeatable for THE Peak District megalithic handbook), I made a determined search for this circle last Saturday.
Basically, as you head north from the Nine Ladies along the more easterly of the routes, keep your eye open for the first field opening up to the east. Stanton Moor 1 is very close to its perimeter. If you can find Stanton Moor 3 in the other direction from Nine Ladies, then you have a good idea what to look for here.
