Pabell Llywarch Hen
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 24th Feb 2007

Pabell Llywarch Hen submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Feb 2007. This is classed as a type 4 site, destroyed or unrecognisable. The
Burl gazetteer entry has it as being destroyed pre-1746 (credit to Maggie & Keith @ Megalithics for that info). Unsurprisingly, yes, nothing was to be seen. Somewhere on the right, the south east side of the A494 at Llanfor near Bala, there was once a stone circle. Not any more. The property seen is called "Carreg y Big" - perhaps a place name indicative of what was once here.

Dinas Dinlle
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 19th Apr 2007

Dinas Dinlle submitted by TimPrevett on 19th Apr 2007. The coastal fort of Dinas Dinlle. The western edge is steadily eroding into the sea - trying to peer at the exposed stratigraphy is a somewhat perilous pursuit! In other places, the beach pebbles making the core of the ramparts are visible.
The site is a victim of its favourable position. Adjacent a family beach, a chip shop at its northern edge, and a pub or two not far away make it a very accessible and well visited place. The erosion on the northern path up is horrendous, even as I walk,...

Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Apr 2007

Sling (Llandegai) submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Apr 2007. The ruinous Sling chambered tomb. A bit of a devil to find. Don't be distracted by the stones on the ridge next to the road. There is also a misleading stone in the middle of the field to the west. This is in deep undergrowth!

Visited: Yes on 18th Sep 2007

Ffridd Newydd submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Sep 2007. Some disparate stones based around a very wide circular earthwork are all that could be made out here. One is put in mind of an enormous embanked circle.

Bwlch y Rhiwgyr submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Sep 2007. A much ruined ring cairn in the Pass of the Drovers, Bwlch y Rhiwgr. Extensively robbed for the dry stone wall which intersects it. A good walk required, with amazing views. The cairn can be viewed very well from the top of the ladder stile.

Pont Scethin A submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Sep 2007. A small standing stone west from Pont Scethin, which Coflein records as possibly being part of a ring (circle or ring cairn, is unclear). Another stone is just a little further to the east.

Hengwm Ring Cairn
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Ring Cairn
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 18th Sep 2007

Hengwm Ring Cairn submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Sep 2007. This is a delight not to be missed. If you visit the tombs at Carneddau Hengwm, this is just a few minutes walk away. Take it in, or you'll be kicking yourself. A small ring cairn, with outward leaning stones, and an internal ring recognisable in most of the monument. It appears also to be sited so as to give an impression of being on a ridge. Comparisons with Bryn Cader Faner, which is to the north on another good long, walk, are easy to make.
