Gelli Hill Cairn B
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 24th Aug 2006

Gelli Hill Cairn B submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Aug 2006. This is not Gelli Hill circle, but yet more stones which could be mistaken for a ruinous circle, as per the comment on 14th August 2005. The 'real' Gelli Hill circle on a narrow neck of land, lower down more or less at the same level as the large fallen standing stone.

Gelli Hill Cairn A
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 25th Aug 2006

Gelli Hill Cairn A submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Aug 2006. The silhouette of the cairn approaching sunset. The diameter of this cairn is considerable, and I think must rank among the taller cairns I have visited. See pictures of the circle looking towards here for an idea of the size of the mound in context of the landscape.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 4th Sep 2006

Cwrt-y-Gollen submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Sep 2006. A close up of the magnificent "Growing Stone". Even my uninterested wife had to admit this was impressive! On former MOD property, the signs have now gone, and it feels much less of an intrusion than previously.

Ynys-Hir submitted by TimPrevett on 11th Sep 2006. A plan of Ynys Hir circle at an MOD information point near Sennybridge. Do not visit without advance permission - see main entry for details. The booming of tank shells and rattling of machine gun fire on this drive along the road was startling!

Cwm Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 11th Sep 2006

Cwm Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 11th Sep 2006. The more northerly of the two easily visible stones. The 1:25000 map records 3 standing stones here, yet Coflein records just one. A visit in person (a fleeting view from the roadside) yields one stone standing around knee height, and another fallen stone to its SW.

Gelli Hill Circle
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jul 2008
Gelli Hill Circle submitted by TimPrevett on 29th Jul 2008. The circle as it is best located - in the angle of a boundary; this is inconsistent with the 1:25000 map, from which the boundaries have changed (as have footpaths) which can cause confusion. 28th July 2008.

Rhos y Gelynen Stones
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 15th Aug 2008
Rhos y Gelynen Stones submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Aug 2008. Three standing stones, two prostrate, and one partially buried lie in a row west-south-west to east-north-east. A long walk for this, good footwear imperative. Best reached by first visiting the stones at Cefn Llanerchi near the masts and aerials, then cutting a line out west to reach a track which runs past them. Any lower approach ends up being horrendously boggy.

Cefn Llanerchi
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 9th Sep 2008
Cefn Llanerchi submitted by TimPrevett on 9th Sep 2008. The fallen stones at Cefn Llanerchi. A good walk up from the reservoir car parking, but an engaging site for the enthusiast. Scan the horizon for prominent distant peaks, look at the proximity of the track... remote feeling, bleak and beautiful.
Worth visiting the Stone Row at Rhos y Gelynen from here, best approached from above - much less boggy!

Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
Broomy Hill Centre submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Couldn't get close to the stone; some young bullocks were in the field and remained oblivious to our presence, so having popped up over a knoll and observed the situation, I grabbed some shots before ducking out of view again.

Broomy Hill North submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Wasn't sure if this was the broken stone or cairn material; couldn't get closer due to the bullocks... (not in view in this picture - I know those are sheep!)

Llanerch Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
Llanerch Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. The Llanerch Stone - covered in cup marks (not sure if any rings); also thought there could be 2 chevrons and a lozenge shape. The stone is largely covered over to prevent weathering, so we returned the disturbed sods to the stone once we'd had a peep.
Had a long natter with the farmers here too, who know of the stone, and regard it with interest, curiosity and keep an eye out for its wellbeing.
