Cefn Maen Amor
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jul 2004
Cefn Maen Amor submitted by TimPrevett on 29th Jul 2004. View to the north, higher ground not far away. Three stones can be seen here.
Cefn Maen Amor stone circle has absurdly small stones, no higher than 1 foot, and easily lost under the bilberry and heather. Marked on OS maps as a cairn just to the north west of Maen Penddu standing stone, on a higher track, this is situated on a flat area, just beneath the highest terrain (as many circles are).
Locating it was a matter of careful map reading, and looking for conspicuous bumps to the north of ...

Bryn Cader Faner submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Sep 2005. The group at Bryn Cader Faner - indeed a reasonable, but boggy walk to a fantastic site.

Cerrig Arthur submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Sep 2005. Looking east from Cerrig Arthur; the ring of the circle is obvious - but there are few stones. The woods to the back are home to a standing stone, and The Sword Stone.

Cors y Gedol
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 24th Sep 2005
Cors y Gedol submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Sep 2005. This was our last stop of the day, so lighting conditions were deteriorating rapidly. The best way I could get something out of this composite shot was to use a sepia filter. The collapsed chamber here (as so many in the area) is obvious. Fine views out to sea, and up into the mountains.

Gwern Einion
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Portal Tomb
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 24th Sep 2005
Gwern Einion submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Sep 2005. Though the massive dolmen here has a wall built around it, and a ruined farm building to the rear, the sense of ambience is mystical. Very rarely visited one would expect - but a cracking site.

Meini Hirion submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Sep 2005. Portal member Hailstones stands against the tallest of the pair. This stone, as you see *is* big... and very wedge shaped. Access is off a public footpath a short way away.

Dyffryn Ardudwy
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Portal Tomb
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 2nd Oct 2005

Dyffryn Ardudwy submitted by TimPrevett on 2nd Oct 2005. Dyffryn Ardudwy is a very easily accessible site, which brings with it a problem. The larger, later dolmen is used as a den. A hearth was built against one of the uprights, now heavily sooted. The chamber was littered with drink cans, and the surrounding cairn has broken drinks bottles and glass in many places. We took away a carrier bag overflowing with unwanted material.

Cist Cerrig
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Portal Tomb
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Apr 2006

Cist Cerrig submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Apr 2006. I found what I am convinced is a cup mark on the east side of the wall from the remains of the portal, set into a flat protruding part of the natural outcrop. I had wanted to think this may have been part of the dolmen's capstone, but it appears to be part of the natural formation. Further research and communication will happen regarding this. This likely cupmark is visible beneath a head sized piece of quartz set in the wall, where the wall kinks. The stones of Cist Gerrig are visible right on ...

Caer-Dyni
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Apr 2006

Caer-Dyni submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Apr 2006. Cupmarks? 3 concave indentations in this picture, another 2 further down off picture. Burial chambers on the Lleyn Peninsula do have a strong precedent of cupmarks. Apologies for the strong light / dark line - not a lot I could do about it on a day like this!
