Within the grounds of the now Theme Park survive the slight earthworks of univallate hillfort, which makes use of the spur above the Churnet Valley. This view shows the site from the south, in Alton.

Bryn Gwyn Stones submitted by TimPrevett on 1st Jul 2002. Bryn Gwyn SH463669 Visited Thursday 17th June 1999 Access: Parked up at a layby on a bend on the A4080 from Newborough to Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, just west of Brynsiencyn. Follow the line of trees and hedges, splitting two fields apart, going to the left or right side of the line (the stones are in the line of the hedges, so either side gives access). About 3 minutes walk down, in the hedge you will see the stones. Very easy access. The stones: Very impressive. Two enormous stones, dwarfing any...

Bryn Dyfrydog

Bryn Dyfrydog submitted by TimPrevett on 1st Jul 2002. Bryn Dyfrydog SH431859 Visited Monday 14th June 1999 Access: Parked considerately at the end of a lane leading to a farm, not far off the B5111 Llanerchymedd to Amlwch road. Down lane, and short way down on the right hand side there is a gate; there were sheep there when I visited, so I climbed over gate instead of opening it. The stone is in the middle of the field, just to the right. The stone: I estimated about 5'5" tall, very square; almost reminds me of a trig point stone. Covered in va...

Broomy Hill Centre submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Couldn't get close to the stone; some young bullocks were in the field and remained oblivious to our presence, so having popped up over a knoll and observed the situation, I grabbed some shots before ducking out of view again.

Broomhill Barrows

Date Added: 3rd Jan 2025
Site Type: Barrow Cemetery Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 30th Dec 2024. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 2

Broomhill Barrows

Broomhill Barrows submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jan 2025. The tallest, easternmost barrow, just as the track drops downhill heading east towards Bloxworth. Three surviving round barrows on a spur, following the ridge east from Woodbury Hillfort, near Bere Regis. Situated in dense woodland, the barrows were covered with trees which look to have been cleared during 2024. The barrows are immediately adjacent the track, and the woods have a very heavy ambience. Quite a walk from Bere Regis or Bloxworth, but very enjoyable.

Log Text: A long walk from either Bere Regis or Bloxworth, surprising to find these having been cleared of trees in the middle of dense woodland.

Bronkham Hill

Bronkham Hill submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd May 2005. A huge amount of barrows, in many varieties and stages of depletion, run along the ridge of Bronkham Hill. This is approaching the largest barrow about midway along the hill (it *is* enormous), with some of the many Saxon Field Boundary Stones visible to the right.

Bromfield Barrows

Bromfield Barrows submitted by TimPrevett on 21st Jun 2004. This shows the northernmost survivor - (another) Robin Hood's Butt Barrow at SO489778. This is over 12 feet high, and over 90 in diameter. Parking can be had very nearby on a wide field entrance. A few paces from adjoining the north end Ludlow Golf Course, it is beneath the towering trees and smothering undergrowth. Excavation here in 1884 revealed the cremation of a boy some 9 feet down, along with bronze implements (not specified exactly what in my source). The incline of the barrow can be ...
