The Whetstones submitted by TimPrevett on 26th Dec 2004. The Whetstones taken from the northern summit of Corndon, adjacent the trig point and atop one of its numerous cairns.
The Whetstones are central in the picture, in the greener area; Miss Chitty has described the Whetstones as a circle once as important as the nearby Mitchell's Fold.
The Whetstones can be viewed from the field just to the north, accessed over a stile from the road (top), which is the boundary with Shropshire.
Numerous stones are in the adjoining field boundary; on...

A composite shot looking towards Corndon Hill, and Mitchell's Fold (out of view).
It was snowing hard at this point on Midwinter Solstice Eve, and even I was questioning my sanity about being in this exposed, beautiful and dramatic landscape.
A biting wind meant I did not stay here for any longer than necessary to get a shot, but on subsequent trips, it will be worth spending tim...

SE from Combe Martin, along the A399, west of Parracombe, lie a group of standing stones. Off the A399, turn right onto Down Lane, which has a broad green strip up the middle for as far as you can see. We parked in front of gate, (a wind pump should be to your front left) to allow for space for other vehicles; however, we wer...

Quartz stones are everywhere, scattered around loose on the ground. Thanks to the book Ancient Exmoor I was able to follow these quartz rocks on through the hedge at the back of the photo, across the road and into the field the other side, and for several hundred yards distance after the road.

Heading east from Ilfracombe, through Combe Martin, along the A399, an unclear left turn is needed! If I remember correctly, there was a signpost for Silver Dale Nurseries, which takes you along the required road. As is often the case, the road is steep, narrow, and very bendy! After a while, there will be two lanes either side of the road, in short succession. First to the left, then to the right. V...

Due to the explicit request not to go off the path, I did not get much evidence of the stone row. This was maddeningly frustrating, given its imminent proximity! However, having studied the map, I went back to where the car was parked, turned left further up the track, and then left up another track, where it intersects the stone row (fenced off with barbed wire). Two stones were just visible to my left through the dense ov...

Pig Hill (S) submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Jul 2002. Pig Hill Stone Setting
[No grid reference given by RG, but I assume that this is likely Pig Hill Multiple Stone Rows at SS765444. Tim]
This consists of a semi-circle with a central stone that aligns with two stones in the semi-circle, making a row of three. Also one stone outside does not appear to line up to any others. This site reminds me of Almsworthy Stone Circle, which is incomplete and has other stones outsides, and inside confusing sites with similarities.
