Pig Hill (S)

Pig Hill (S) submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Jul 2002. Pig Hill Stone Setting [No grid reference given by RG, but I assume that this is likely Pig Hill Multiple Stone Rows at SS765444. Tim] This consists of a semi-circle with a central stone that aligns with two stones in the semi-circle, making a row of three. Also one stone outside does not appear to line up to any others. This site reminds me of Almsworthy Stone Circle, which is incomplete and has other stones outsides, and inside confusing sites with similarities. Photo, visit & text by R...

Piper's Crag Stone

Piper's Crag Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 28th Mar 2005. After visiting the Swastika Stone, we visited a well cup marked stone. Here Rich32 is in another elbow raising ritual, Cassie waits for David to throw his camera for her to fetch, Jeremy awaits transportation to the nearest excarnation platform, and Marion finds it all too much, and turns her back on it.

Pontesford Hill

Pontesford Hill submitted by TimPrevett on 29th Jun 2004. Find a hill in Shropshire, and it likely has a hillfort upon it! In this picture are two hillforts - Earl's Hill Camp (a rampart can be seen upon the right hand side of the top hill), and Pontesford Hill hillfort, covered by trees now. Taken on the move on the A488 looking south.

Poundbury submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Nov 2003. A distant view of Poundbury Hill Fort SY683912, from the car park next to the Dorset & Devon military museum (imposing castle next to the road on the E side of Dorchester centre) , about 5 minutes walk from the County Museum. Time did not permit me to visit this fort in person, but I was well chuffed when I got out the car to see some embankments to my NW. Finds and details of what is at Poundury are at the County Museum.

Poxwell Cairn

Poxwell Cairn submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Nov 2003. The remains of a barrow atop a ridge, basically! Look at the ridge of any hill going west from here, and you will see examples of what this would have been! Other similar stones were in the area, either showing more barrows, or displaced from this location. There is a clear mound here, and even some kerbing left. It is a short deviation from the footpath, and we were observed for a while (without challenge) from a field to the N by a farmer in a red pick up with binoculars, so I am n...
