Welshampton Bowl Barrow
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Shropshire)
Visited: Yes on 15th Jan 2005
Welshampton Bowl Barrow submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Jan 2005. The barrow adjoining the road in Welshampton; impressive stature - shame about the road cutting it in half, and the telegraph pole!
A good view into the enclosure, and idea of the surrounding countryside is possible by standing on the bank above the pavement. Snowdrops were growing on the barrow today (Sat 15th Jan 2005); an encouraging sign of the life stirring in the ground again.

A composite shot looking towards Corndon Hill, and Mitchell's Fold (out of view).
It was snowing hard at this point on Midwinter Solstice Eve, and even I was questioning my sanity about being in this exposed, beautiful and dramatic landscape.
A biting wind meant I did not stay here for any longer than necessary to get a shot, but on subsequent trips, it will be worth spending tim...

Corndon Hill 3 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The third cairn on top of Corndon Hill, looking to Corndon Hill 4 and the north east, Midwinter Solstice 2004.
Many of the cairns show signs of interference and digging into; about five such 'holes', three very sizeable, are within this cairn.
View to the north east.

Corndon Hill 4
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Powys)

The cairns are substantial, and writing as one who has walked miles to see much lesser cairns, this hilltop is a worthy visit.
My friend, 'Wintertrees', helps gave a sense of scale.
