Wideford Hill
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: Scotland (Orkney)
Visited: Yes on 7th Oct 2006

Wideford Hill submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Oct 2006. Wideford Chambered Tomb, viewed from the south, Weds 4th October. I found the tomb to be one of the lowest to tombs to access the side chambers, and also the most muddy! Fantastic views to the north and west from its top, too.

Hot Springs (North Carolina)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: United States (The South)
Visited: Yes on 19th Apr 2009
Hot Springs (North Carolina) submitted by TimPrevett on 19th Apr 2009. The thermal springs originally discovered by the indigenous peoples are still in use today with open air but undercover tubs available to bathe in on a commercial basis. This is right next to the river, with hills all around. It's a great experience, and your pores and skin feel fantastic after an hour in the warm mineral rich water.

Hayden Butte
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: United States (The Southwest)
Visited: Yes on 5th Dec 2009
Hayden Butte submitted by TimPrevett on 5th Dec 2009. Hayden Butte (pronounced bute) has a lot of petroglyphs when you know where to look. All the glyphs are on sides of the mountain facing the sun (ie. south and east - as it seems is the case with most sites).
Most are recessed off the paths and are inaccesible due to wildlife and heritage preservation but can be viewed adequately from the paths, and with assistance (ie camera zoom, binoculars).
If not used to this environment, be mindful of bobcats, rattlesnakes, cacti and the temperature. It...

V/V
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: United States (The Southwest)
Visited: Yes on 31st May 2010

V/V submitted by TimPrevett on 31st May 2010. The rocks are dense with petroglyphs, some of which feature in an archaeo-astronomical event. I saw a token of this event in the afternoon of my visit on 15th August 2009.
Two deliberately placed and shaped stones above the panels cast shadow daggers across different glyphs, pointing to different marks at key times of the year. A lot more information on this (and more generally) is at the website http://www.sinaguasunwatchers.com/vbarv.htm
Although I didn't witness a key event, to see ...

Llanfechell 1 submitted by TimPrevett on 2nd Jul 2002. Llanfechell SH364917 & 370916
Visited Monday 14th June 1999
Site 1 - Access: Turning left onto the road towards the A5025, just south of Cemaes, having come through Llanfechell village. We parked up on this (initially!) broad residential lane, then down a marked footpath on the right. If you are carrying a child on your back, watch out for low branches - as our daughter got a knock on the head which greatly upset her. Over a stile, down a very pot-holey field, through a gate (this bit was li...
