Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 15th Aug 2005

Maengwyngweddew submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Aug 2005. Have you ever tried looking for a squat white standing stone, about 85cm tall, with uncertain directions, and a mountainside of sheep? Not easy. This took me two attempts. An aborted attempt on my birthday left me disappointed and frustrated, wishing I'd purchased the 1:25000, and not the 1:50000. Sob sob.
Thankfully, my family had pity upon me, and I returned a couple days later with new attitude and closer studying of the 1:50000 and guide book. This fresh approach helped me find this quartz...

Martin's Down Bell Barrows
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 23rd May 2005
Martin's Down Bell Barrows submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd May 2005. One of the bell barrows viewed across the barley, from the gate into the next field.
I just couldn't help thinking of the Fields of Elyssium in Gladiator here. It was blissful. Only sounds were the birds, and the 'white noise' of the wind through the swaying heads of barley. Blissful.

Maumbury Rings
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Henge
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 3rd Nov 2003
Maumbury Rings submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Nov 2003. This is Maumbury Ring SY690899, a henge not far out of Dorchester centre; Dorchester South train station is 3 minutes walk away, if that.
The Romans adapted the henge into an amphitheatre, but it is an impressive monument nonetheless, especially given its proximity to the town - like IN the town!
When I took this picture, the rain was chucking down; I was trying to shield the camera from rain, and so did not get any shots out of the relative cover of the nearly denuded trees.
