Just one ring surrounds this hilltop, with glorious views. Access is not obvious, so follow the route on the map, and when going through the wood, mind your footing. Tripping hazards abound.
A lovely remote place. Even though, while I was here on midsummer eve, a man on a quad bike came riding on a track to the south. If I recall correct, he was the brother of the landowner. We discuss...

Shropshire Traveller, Cassie the Dog, Teufel, Sharon, Izzy and Nat (front) at the enormous Agglestone - an outcrop of ironstone, which sits upon a mound within a vast natural amphitheatre. It used to be erect, and able to rock (ie. a logan stone), but the stone is now fallen. Attributed to Satanic throwing, and fancifully used for druidic rites, it is impressive. This is a multivallate hillfort, wooded, with possible recumbent standing stone within the ramparts. Straddles the border of Shropshire and Herefordshire.

The folklore of the stone, which sits within view of the considerably more immense Agglestone (to rear right), is obvious from its name.

Maengwyngweddew submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Aug 2005. Have you ever tried looking for a squat white standing stone, about 85cm tall, with uncertain directions, and a mountainside of sheep? Not easy. This took me two attempts. An aborted attempt on my birthday left me disappointed and frustrated, wishing I'd purchased the 1:25000, and not the 1:50000. Sob sob.
Thankfully, my family had pity upon me, and I returned a couple days later with new attitude and closer studying of the 1:50000 and guide book. This fresh approach helped me find this quartz...

Clap Yr Arian submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Aug 2005. A composite of the cairn, 'Silver Lump'! The cairn is over 30 feet in diameter, and has some kerb stones remaining on its north western side. A large hollow shows a robbed out centre. The cairn is easily visited when visiting Maen Serth, and then on to Maengwyngweddew. If you look to the centre horizon in this picture, Maen Serth can just be made out.

For my daughter's birthday, we were going to the excellent Quackers Childrens' Play Centre (see www.quackersnow.com ) only a few minutes from the campsite, which we did.

This stone is just over 5 feet tall, heavily leaning, with what appears like cairn material around the base. It is adjacent a football pitch, and access is no problem. Parking to the north in a large layby. This stone is also the first I have ever driven to, so is a notable megalith for me! When I've passed my test, hopefully many more will come.

There are meant to be two; one round toppped one in a field is easy enough to find... but this one... to find this I did a scout around the perimeter immediately surrounding the first stone; when on the west side of the field, I spotted this. The picture is taken stretched on tip toe at maximum manual zoom, across a hedge. Is it a stone or a tree trunk? to the NE of the Kinnerton I....

We had a lovely evening picnic at Long Meg & Her Daughters in late August; the place seemed to bring the children alive when we arrived - and they had walked up Hallin Fell and down again in the afternoon!
