Little Moreton Hall submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Apr 2006. The possible barrow in the grounds of the magnificent Tudor building of Little Moreton Hall. Some of the mound is in lower left hand side, fenced off at this time due to erosion.

Cist Cerrig

Cist Cerrig submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Apr 2006. I found what I am convinced is a cup mark on the east side of the wall from the remains of the portal, set into a flat protruding part of the natural outcrop. I had wanted to think this may have been part of the dolmen's capstone, but it appears to be part of the natural formation. Further research and communication will happen regarding this. This likely cupmark is visible beneath a head sized piece of quartz set in the wall, where the wall kinks. The stones of Cist Gerrig are visible right on ...

Caer-Dyni

Caer-Dyni submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Apr 2006. Cupmarks? 3 concave indentations in this picture, another 2 further down off picture. Burial chambers on the Lleyn Peninsula do have a strong precedent of cupmarks. Apologies for the strong light / dark line - not a lot I could do about it on a day like this!

The Berth

The Berth submitted by TimPrevett on 26th Mar 2006. Iron Age Slave Chains. A gathering of the Berth Archaeological Group on Saturday 25th March had the enormous pleasure of a guided talk by Ernie Jenks (right) who carried out the dig here in 1962/3. One of the most unusual finds here at that time were some slave chains like those found at Llyn Cerrig Bach on Anglesey, showing the slave trade was alive and well in pre Roman Britain. Here Ernie demonstrates with his own reconstruction of the chains, using himself and Portal Contributor VirtHist...

Chirbury

Chirbury

Chirbury submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Mar 2006. The location of the ring ditch, possible henge, west from Chirbury. Just an apparently empty field. The road to its south runs higher, and this photo is taken from the road. The crop mark was certainly in this field, and the approximate area has been circle. Size of the circle has no bearing upon the size of the ring ditch.

Dyffryn Lane, Berriew

Dyffryn Lane, Berriew submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Mar 2006. If one looks carefully at the Dyffryn Lane henge site, especially with reference to the aerial image in the CADW guide to Clywd & Powys, three areas of corresponding contours can be detected. Look for curves and rises juxtaposed against the linear hedgerows. I have marked the picture here to help show off the distant curves near the field boundary, and a closer mark to show the contours nearer the front of the image. Walking down from Maen Beuno, just a couple minutes, look over the field opposi...

Arbor Low 1

Arbor Low 1

Arbor Low 1 submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Feb 2006. Visiting Arbor Low on Tues 21st Feb 2006, this circle has been 'burnt' into the centre of the monument with some chemical, killing the vegetation. Ivy, holly, lavender, and tea lights were left in the centre. Also planted nearby were some crocuses just beginning to flower. Surely *not* how leave a special place for other people?

Brenig 46

Brenig 46

Brenig 46 submitted by TimPrevett on 20th Feb 2006. The more ruinous Brenig 46 Cairn, looking SW, with Portal user whatisthat in the background. Many of the cairns here have been reconstructed in situ. Obviously, this one has not been! Nonetheless, I'll often walk miles to see something like this, so still worthwhile. This cairn is situated north of a mediaeval Hafod - a summer grazing base, called Sion Lwyd. We kept wanting to call it Sian Lloyd!

Brenig 6

Brenig 6 submitted by TimPrevett on 20th Feb 2006. The small cairn of Brenig 6. Also reconstructed in situ, with posts denoting where posts contemporary with the cairn were discovered. Its low position in the landscape is puzzling. Most cairns sit high on ridges on spurs with good visibility in at least one direction. This does not. This view looks to the South West, with Maen Cleddau below the ridge.

Brenig 51

Brenig 51 submitted by TimPrevett on 13th Feb 2006. The reconstructed Platform Cairn, aka Brenig 51. This magnificent monument was a complete surprise - 26 small stones in a perfect circle, with a 7 metre wide flat cairn ring around, raised a couple feet above the ground. The most unusual cairn I have seen to date. Wonderful. This is a composite of 3 shots, looking to the S over Llyn Brenig.

Eglwyseg Kerb Cairn B submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Feb 2006. Not as defined as its neighbour, the Kerb Cairn B is still obvious. Have taken it with the tree in for point of reference, but the trees up there were largely dead, or on their way - so this may not be there for much longer.
