No trace survives, it seems, as the farmer destroyed it looking for fabled treasure beneath it in 1839 - so the story goes. Not far to the NW of Kinver hillfort, off Bannut Tree Lane, near the footpath shown cutting across the field.

A lovely area, and if you know where to find them (after 10 years of visiting, I do at last), many items of interest at Alderley Edge.

Many of the cairns here have been reconstructed in situ. Obviously, this one has not been! Nonetheless, I'll often walk miles to see something like this, so still worthwhile. This cairn is situated north of a mediaeval Hafod - a summer grazing base, called Sion Lwyd. We kept wanting to call it Sian Lloyd!

Visiting Arbor Low on Tues 21st Feb 2006, this circle has been 'burnt' into the centre of the monument with some chemical, killing the vegetation. Ivy, holly, lavender, and tea lights were left in the centre. Also planted nearby were some crocuses just beginning to flower. Surely *not* how leave a special place for other people?

If one looks carefully at the Dyffryn Lane henge site, especially with reference to the aerial image in the CADW guide to Clywd & Powys, three areas of corresponding contours can be detected. Look for curves and rises juxtaposed against the linear hedgerows. I have marked the picture here to help show off the distant curves near the field boundary, and a closer mark to show the contours nearer the front of the image. The road to its south runs higher, and this photo is taken from the road. The crop mark was certainly in this field, and the approximate area has been circle. The Berth submitted by TimPrevett on 26th Mar 2006. Iron Age Slave Chains. A gathering of the Berth Archaeological Group on Saturday 25th March had the enormous pleasure of a guided talk by Ernie Jenks (right) who carried out the dig here in 1962/3.
One of the most unusual finds here at that time were some slave chains like those found at Llyn Cerrig Bach on Anglesey, showing the slave trade was alive and well in pre Roman Britain.

I found what I am convinced is a cup mark on the east side of the wall from the remains of the portal, set into a flat protruding part of the natural outcrop. I had wanted to think this may have been part of the dolmen's capstone, but it appears to be part of the natural formation. Further research and communication will happen regarding this. This likely cupmark is visible beneath a head sized piece of quartz set in the wall, where the wall kinks. The stones of Cist Gerrig are visible right on ...
