Ludlow Museum submitted by TimPrevett on 14th Feb 2004. Ludlow Museum sits on the corner of the Marketplace, with Tourist Information within the same building (the cream coloured one). If visiting out of season, phone up to enquire about opening hours as it is closed for much of the time. We were disappointed to find the museum closed when we visited, so do check.

Long Stone (Minchinhampton)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 30th Dec 2009
Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Shropshire)
Visited: Yes on 31st Dec 2004
Long Mynd C submitted by TimPrevett on 31st Dec 2004. A depleted bowl barrow, north east from the Shooting Box disc barrow, with signs of excavation in the centre. It has a very slight profile and is best detected as a raised mound on the skyline when approaching from the south east, having turned north before the Boiling Well.

Long Meg And Her Daughters
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Cumbria)
Visited: Yes on 10th Sep 2005

Long Meg And Her Daughters submitted by TimPrevett on 10th Sep 2005. We had a lovely evening picnic at Long Meg & Her Daughters in late August; the place seemed to bring the children alive when we arrived - and they had walked up Hallin Fell and down again in the afternoon! Here they demonstrate one of the best uses for enormous megaliths: hide & seek / chase... plenty of opportunity for that here :o) On the way back to Hadrian's Wall (where we camped) my son spontaneously remarked, "thankyou for a wonderful day". Bless 'im. The only thing we had spent that day w...

Long Low
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Staffordshire)
Visited: Yes on 30th Jul 2006

Long Low submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Jul 2006. Looking to the NNE of Long Low, new styal over the wall. Two interesting things about Long Low: 1) It is the only long barrow in Staffordshire, and 2) It has rounded ends, which are either described as two round barrows, or as rounded terminals. This is very reminiscent of the Broadmayne Bank Barrow in Dorset. Drystone walling intersects it in several places, and I styal is incorporated into one of the western side walls.

Long Bredy Bank Barrow
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 27th Apr 2005

Long Bredy Bank Barrow submitted by TimPrevett on 27th Apr 2005. The Long Bredy Bank Barrow - very long and very wide! Portal contributor Morgoth is to the left, giving it a sense of scale. This view is looking north. If you look carefully between Morgoth's head and the pylon above the green field, you may notice a long line crop mark which intrigued a few of us on the Megalithic Meet.
This Bank Barrow also acts as a terminus for another Dorset cursus, which ends only 150 feet away or so to the west.

Llyn Cerrig Bach
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature
Country: Wales (Anglesey)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Apr 2007

Llyn Cerrig Bach submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Apr 2007. Perhaps one of the most important iron age sites in the country. A Sacred Lake, into which many votive goods were offered from the late Iron Age (2nd century BC), until just before the Conquest of Anglesey by the Romans. Eleven swords, eight spearheads, wheels of up to 22 different chariots, parts of a shield, and slave chains were found during peat extraction in the Second World War.
This is the single most important site of this type in Britain.

Site Type: Hillfort
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 5th Jan 2006

Llwyn Bryn Dinas submitted by TimPrevett on 5th Jan 2006. The nearby hillfort of Llwyn Bryn Dinas would have had a commanding view over this east - west valley. The upmost part of the hill's shape is part of the defences, clearly visible either side as you go along the Tanat Valley.

Lligwy Burial Chamber submitted by TimPrevett on 1st Jul 2002. Visited at dawn, Thursday 28th September 2000.
I had hoped to get a sunrise here, but was instead greeted with cloud and rain! Nevertheless, it gave me this moody photo, which I quite like!

Llech Golman submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Feb 2007. While a black and white photo may not capture the ruddy hues of this stone, I was still very pleased with this choice of 'colour' and angle.

Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 4th Jan 2006

Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone) submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Jan 2006. The large re-used Bronze Age standing stone next to the road in the village. Once it was one of several stones here; now it's the only standing stone in the village.
If the archaeological database is interpreted correctly, the schoolhouse behind had a mound where the stone was formerly situated - before the school house was constructed.
Parking around the bend as seen, ideal for visiting the village.

Llanfechell 2
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Anglesey)
Visited: Yes on 2nd Jul 2002

Llanfechell 2 submitted by TimPrevett on 2nd Jul 2002. We walked to this site from site 1; turning right on to main road, and then left on to a curving residential road. Access was over a stile (on the verge of falling to bits when we were there). The stone is clearly visible in the centre of the field, not too far from a pylon.
The stone: about 7ft tall, up to 2ft deep and about 4 ft wide. Not as much lichen as other stones, but characteristically decorated by the local bird population.

Llanfechell 1 submitted by TimPrevett on 2nd Jul 2002. Llanfechell SH364917 & 370916
Visited Monday 14th June 1999
Site 1 - Access: Turning left onto the road towards the A5025, just south of Cemaes, having come through Llanfechell village. We parked up on this (initially!) broad residential lane, then down a marked footpath on the right. If you are carrying a child on your back, watch out for low branches - as our daughter got a knock on the head which greatly upset her. Over a stile, down a very pot-holey field, through a gate (this bit was li...

Llanerch Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Sep 2008
Llanerch Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. The Llanerch Stone - covered in cup marks (not sure if any rings); also thought there could be 2 chevrons and a lozenge shape. The stone is largely covered over to prevent weathering, so we returned the disturbed sods to the stone once we'd had a peep.
Had a long natter with the farmers here too, who know of the stone, and regard it with interest, curiosity and keep an eye out for its wellbeing.

This view looks towards the eastern tip of Anglesey, with Puffin Island top left centre.
