Fiddler's Elbow submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Jan 2007. The unmistakable artwork of the Wychwood Ale, "Fiddler's Elbow", which incorporates folklore motifs common to Stone Circles and Standing Stones - fairies, and a diabolical fiddler. Interestingly, there is a perished standing stone in Shropshire at a location called... Fiddler's Elbow, and just 5 miles east from there, is the fairy stone, where there was once a noted fairy encounter. Image is used with permission of The Wychwood Brewery who produce a range of good ales, with artwork in keeping ...

Fairy Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Aug 2011. Long time coming in getting to this stone! Found out about it about 2005, and got visit earlier this week.
In Paul Devereux's book "Places of Power" pages 121-2 he records this diminished standing stone known as The Fairy Stone (AKA The Devil's Stone). It has a long tradition of fairy lights associated with it, and an account of someone walking past the stone one night getting the fairy lights stuck to his trousers. On getting home he found the trousers to be scorched - according to the tale.....

The stone is said to be situated close to a geological fault.

These two sizeable stones, likely barrow remnants, situated a couple miles west of Porlock, and several miles east of Lynton, are easily accessible.
Heading west from Porlock (the hill coming out of Porlock is VERY steep and not for the faint hearted!), keep an eye out for a fork in the A39. When you see the fork, keep going along the A39; to the right there are two car parks; take the second car park, as this puts you within one ...

Due to the explicit request not to go off the path, I did not get much evidence of the stone row. This was maddeningly frustrating, given its imminent proximity! However, having studied the map, I went back to where the car was parked, turned left further up the track, and then left up another track, where it intersects the stone row (fenced off with barbed wire). Two stones were just visible to my left through the dense ov...

Glastonbury Tor submitted by TimPrevett on 17th May 2006. I awoke early Sunday morning; mist hung in the streets of Glastonbury - so I *knew* that above it would be fantastic, so I got out quick, eating breakfast on the go... as I ascended the tor, the mist began thinning to give a fantastic day above. Magic.

Stanton Drew - Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Aug 2006. For evidence of the avenue, go past the NE circle, and look for the linear earthwork. The line is visible here on the LH corner of the picture; the group is on another part of the earthwork. Looking on the aerial pics, and on the ground, this can be traced from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock outside the Great and NE circles. I did have an excellent picture of this from the ground, but have accidentally overwritten it!
