Glastonbury Tor

Glastonbury Tor submitted by TimPrevett on 17th May 2006. I awoke early Sunday morning; mist hung in the streets of Glastonbury - so I *knew* that above it would be fantastic, so I got out quick, eating breakfast on the go... as I ascended the tor, the mist began thinning to give a fantastic day above. Magic.

Bury Bank (Staffordshire) submitted by TimPrevett on 20th May 2006. The inner platform with trees following the arc of the rampart. Courses of pebbles can also be traced, forming what must have been walls at some period. See main entry for details.

Avebury

Avebury submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd May 2006. Avebury snails; I don't recall having seen snails on standing stones before, so seeing this fellow (and some other companions) at Avebury, well, it seemed quite unusual. I'll keep looking at other sites from now!

West Kennet Avenue

West Kennet Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd May 2006. The West Kennet Avenue, looking uphill towards Avebury. Perhaps I have watched too much Children of the Stones, but it is easy to see profiles of people in these stones.

Chalice Well

Chalice Well submitted by TimPrevett on 26th May 2006. Chalice Well gardens - a really beautiful place. Of all the environments created around holy wells, this must surely be one of the best, aesthetically pleasing. Absolutely stunning place.

Fontmell Down

Fontmell Down submitted by TimPrevett on 21st Jun 2006. A long cross dyke bisecting Fontmell Down, visible from Spread Eagle Hill road (used as an alternative Blandford - Shaftesbury route by many). The dyke is visible cutting across the hill here. A dedicated parking area, and public footpath give direct access to the centre of the dyke. Panoramic views to the west. One of 64+ cross dykes in Dorset.

Hardy Monument Barrows

Hardy Monument Barrows submitted by TimPrevett on 21st Jun 2006. The Hardy monument itself (nothing to do with Thomas, but one of Nelson's (Battle of Trafalgar) chief bods) with a barrow to the right, sunset sometime in early June. Superb panoramas up there.

Cuween Hill

Cuween Hill

Cuween Hill submitted by TimPrevett on 21st Jun 2006. This was the best feeling tomb on Orkney for me; darkness. No modern skylights. The solitude, and darkness are quite creepy, but it is superb. A very low crawl indeed, and investigating the four smaller chambers is a must. Best shots were without a flash, and I rather liked this self portrait just near the entrance. Summed up the feeling of this tomb, which some have called "The Tomb of the Beagles" due to the quanity of dog bones found here.

Taversoe Tuick

Taversoe Tuick submitted by TimPrevett on 21st Jun 2006. This two tier tomb was my other Orcadian favourite; visited about 10pm, the light level was still pretty good; a quick dash down the ladder with camera on timer to give a little more sense of scale to the monument. This is a site to spend time at; lends itself very well to a little mellow reflection.

Corndon Hill 1 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The first substantial cairn on Corndon Hill, Midwinter Solstice 2004; a friend, 'Wintertrees', stands on the far side of the cairn for an idea of scale of the monument. Roundton Hillfort is upon the hill to the left.

Corndon Hill 3

Corndon Hill 3 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The third cairn on top of Corndon Hill, looking to Corndon Hill 4 and the north east, Midwinter Solstice 2004. Many of the cairns show signs of interference and digging into; about five such 'holes', three very sizeable, are within this cairn. View to the north east.

Corndon Hill 4

Corndon Hill 4 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The most north eastern cairn on top of Corndon Hill, Midwinter Solstice 2004. Corndon Hill 3, left, and Corndon Hill 2, top right are also visible. The cairns are substantial, and writing as one who has walked miles to see much lesser cairns, this hilltop is a worthy visit. My friend, 'Wintertrees', helps gave a sense of scale.

Crisp big blue sky on Midwinter Solstice 2004. Made me feel very euphoric; wonderful day for visiting this location.

Long Mynd C submitted by TimPrevett on 31st Dec 2004. A depleted bowl barrow, north east from the Shooting Box disc barrow, with signs of excavation in the centre. It has a very slight profile and is best detected as a raised mound on the skyline when approaching from the south east, having turned north before the Boiling Well.
