Cwm Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 11th Sep 2006. The more northerly of the two easily visible stones. The 1:25000 map records 3 standing stones here, yet Coflein records just one. A visit in person (a fleeting view from the roadside) yields one stone standing around knee height, and another fallen stone to its SW.

Another perspective on the enormous glacial erratic in West Park; it's a shame this hadn't been exposed for millenia like many glacial erratics, as the more I have visited the park the more anthropomorphic features I spot in the stone. Given time this could have developed some folklore - but it just resides in a very pleasant park, and that's it.

The Knockin Hoarstone

The Knockin Hoarstone submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Sep 2006. Last recorded in 1930, protruding from an earthen bank, this lost Shropshire stone should be in bank / hedgerow on the right hand side, somewhere just either side of the gate. Had a good look around, but no success. A stone further into the field along the footpath (just left of the tree on the skyline) initially got me excited, but should be about 5 feet by 2 feet. This was not. Will visit again when vegetation is down.
This is just off the A5, on a bend, so take care. It's rather obvious her...

Grey Stones

Grey Stones submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Sep 2006. Another lost Shropshire circle remains lost! Largely destroyed by 1883, this was probably originally a bowl barrow, with a diameter of around 100 feet. Revealed and damaged by penetrative ploughing in 1945 and again ten years later, some structure was revealed - but now there is nothing to be seen, it seems.
Transcribing the grid ref places it in the field in front of the picture on multimap, but putting it onto the GPS places it higher up on the crest of the hill. If this was a barrow a rid...

Raigmore submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Oct 2006. My tripod was still packed, and I had the narrowest window of opportunity to visit this as the daylight faded on a dark, wet evening. Though relocated, this cairn is still impressive in itself, but I suspect some stones have been moved out from their positions. Taller stones (about 4 foot high), decreasing in stature around to the opposite side. This gives some idea of the cairn's contemporary context, with the large industrial estate to its east.
