Bwlch y Ddeufaen
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 30th Jul 2004
Bwlch y Ddeufaen submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Jul 2004. The western stone has two associated stones, says Frances Lynch in her guidebook to the ancient and historic sites of the area.
The middle stone is convincing in its relationship with the main stone - the most distant in this picture.
I remain uncertain about the smaller whiter stone at the front of the picture, as it seems out of character with the other stone monuments in The Pass of The Two Stones.

Barclodiad-y-Gawres (Conwy)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Aug 2004
Barclodiad-y-Gawres (Conwy) submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. One of another two cairns close to Barclodiad y Gawres.
While the pylons are somewhat of an eyesore through this place of outstanding beauty, they do help to triangulate the locations of these cairns.
This cairn is just to the south of the main track, below the pylons. It may not be obvious with this cairn when it is reached, but the ground will feel different!
When walking around some cairns, you get used to the feel of the stones underfoot, and the extent to which they spread. The loc...

Caer Bach
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Aug 2004
Caer Bach submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. A view down on to Caer Bach, showing its prominent place above the Conwy Valley.
This is taken ascending Tal y Fan mountain.
There is a conspicuously white stone just left of centre; this stone is very large, and of different character than the other stones.
In the valley below within the picture (but not visible) is the Roman port and fort of Canovium - an essential link in their North Wales strongholds.

Maen Ffordd Rufeinig
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Aug 2004
Maen Ffordd Rufeinig submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. A possible standing stone south of the road at SH694723, not far from the Roman Road, hence its name.
There are many boulders around the area, but this longer stone has been erected, and due to erosion on the far side, subsided.
A search of both CARN and Coflein databases reveals nothing further.

Llanerch Fedw submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. The eastern of the two cairns; this one is worth a visit. A definite ring, mound, and robbed out centre.
This view looks towards the eastern tip of Anglesey, with Puffin Island top left centre.

Bryn Euryn submitted by TimPrevett on 27th Aug 2004. Bryn Euryn, site of the Iron Age hillfort, as seen from the north west; most people will see this briefly from the other side where the A55 skirts its densely wooded sides, and blackthorn scrub.

Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 6th Sep 2004
Graig Lwyd Cairns submitted by TimPrevett on 6th Sep 2004. The volcanic looking cairn, looking south west. This cairn does not look as big as it actually is! It is a matter of minutes walk on from Druids Circle, and certainly worth investigating. Grid Ref SH 71662 74693.

Maen Pebyll
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 4th Oct 2004
Maen Pebyll submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Oct 2004. The collapsed remains of Maen Pebyll - possibly a long barrow, but these stones do resemble a collapsed dolmen; compare to Presaddfed on Anglesey.
The weather was vile on this visit, and for 5:50pm at the start of October, the light quality was dire. The driving rain was beginning to affect the camera, so using flash needed - thus giving the white blobs and streaks seen on the picture.

Red Farm
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 6th Oct 2004
Red Farm submitted by TimPrevett on 6th Oct 2004. There are a couple features of interest in the field of the Red Farm circle that give something to consider as part of the bigger picture.
Further down the field, to the right hand side, there is a large mound of stones. It is unclear as to what exactly this is - field clearance? There is a good circular bank of stones beneath the surface, so I'm not entirely convinced it is just field clearance.
In this picture there are a few stones of the surviving Red Farm circle to the rear. Perhaps s...

Ffrith y Ddwyffrwd

Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 11th Jul 2005

Ffrith y Ddwyffrwd submitted by TimPrevett on 11th Jul 2005. A cairn in the "summer pasture of the two streams". It was actually the landowners who mentioned the cairn to me, as CADW had written to them making them aware that a decent cairn lie on their property.
This is catching the north west of the kerbing, looking into Snowdonia. The bonsai effect tree is a helpful means of locating the cairn. A lovely, peaceful location. I visited (and found it late on Saturday evening) but the light was failing rapidly. I returned on Sunday morning, and must have ...

Brenig 51
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 13th Feb 2006
Brenig 51 submitted by TimPrevett on 13th Feb 2006. The reconstructed Platform Cairn, aka Brenig 51. This magnificent monument was a complete surprise - 26 small stones in a perfect circle, with a 7 metre wide flat cairn ring around, raised a couple feet above the ground. The most unusual cairn I have seen to date. Wonderful. This is a composite of 3 shots, looking to the S over Llyn Brenig.

Brenig 8 submitted by TimPrevett on 20th Feb 2006. The prominent knoll position of Brenig 8, AKA Waen Ddafad, looking SE across Llyn Brenig. In viewing any pictures of the Brenig Cairns, it must be rememered that the lake is a recent addition.

Brenig 46
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 20th Feb 2006

Brenig 46 submitted by TimPrevett on 20th Feb 2006. The more ruinous Brenig 46 Cairn, looking SW, with Portal user whatisthat in the background. Many of the cairns here have been reconstructed in situ. Obviously, this one has not been! Nonetheless, I'll often walk miles to see something like this, so still worthwhile. This cairn is situated north of a mediaeval Hafod - a summer grazing base, called Sion Lwyd. We kept wanting to call it Sian Lloyd!
