The area of unmown grass, yarrow, cow parsley etc between the two is the site of a triple ditched barrow, or maybe even a henge, not far from the River Tame.

See the Flash Earth image close up. This was part of a cursus... now bisected by the imperious A38, running along the course of the Roman Ryknild St. Cursus now descheduled.

Alrewas Causewayed Enclosure submitted by TimPrevett on 28th May 2007. Looking SE on the dog leg of the road where Sale Lane and Daisy Lane meet. Evidence suggests a Neolithic Causewayed Enclosure at this site. NMR records: "The enclosure is situated on fairly level ground 2km south of the River Trent and 3.25km east of its tributaries, the Rivers Tame and Mease. The innermost circuit measures 168 metres by 215 metres, while the outermost is 205 metres by circa 250 metres. The circuits are generally around 10 metres apart."

Trwyn Du submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Apr 2007. The visible remains of the Bronze Age cairn, on top of a Mesolithic camp and flint scatter site. The only excavated mesolithic site in Gwynedd now looks out on the Estuary in front of the Aberffraw Sands. In 7000 BC, this would have been looking out onto a river valler, with sea levels considerably lower. This is a top spot - the elements and nature up here were great. Even on a very windy, dull day, as the SE of the country baked in sweltering heat!

Llyn Cerrig Bach submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Apr 2007. Perhaps one of the most important iron age sites in the country. A Sacred Lake, into which many votive goods were offered from the late Iron Age (2nd century BC), until just before the Conquest of Anglesey by the Romans. Eleven swords, eight spearheads, wheels of up to 22 different chariots, parts of a shield, and slave chains were found during peat extraction in the Second World War.
This is the single most important site of this type in Britain.

Dinas Dinlle submitted by TimPrevett on 19th Apr 2007. The coastal fort of Dinas Dinlle. The western edge is steadily eroding into the sea - trying to peer at the exposed stratigraphy is a somewhat perilous pursuit! In other places, the beach pebbles making the core of the ramparts are visible.
The site is a victim of its favourable position. Adjacent a family beach, a chip shop at its northern edge, and a pub or two not far away make it a very accessible and well visited place. The erosion on the northern path up is horrendous, even as I walk,...
