Taversoe Tuick

Taversoe Tuick submitted by TimPrevett on 21st Jun 2006. This two tier tomb was my other Orcadian favourite; visited about 10pm, the light level was still pretty good; a quick dash down the ladder with camera on timer to give a little more sense of scale to the monument. This is a site to spend time at; lends itself very well to a little mellow reflection.

Tatton Neolithic posthole and pit

Tatton Neolithic posthole and pit submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Mar 2005. Tatton Park is under the care of The National Trust but also managed by Cheshire County Council, so even for National Trust members there is a 4 pound admission charge per car. The features of note are all in the Parkland area near the Old Hall , and are easily driven to. I have tried to take a photo of each of the areas where said features would have been, having copied the circle from the mulitmap data onto my own OS map. Without GPS and further information, I've endeavoured to be as accurate ...

Stenness submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Aug 2006. The mountains to the west of Orkney dominate the skyline of the Stenness / Brodgar area, and I found many monuments framed in their view by these. I assume one must be Ward Hill on Hoy.

Stapeley Hill Earthworks submitted by TimPrevett on 6th May 2005. Showing one of the Bronze Age earthworks that completely traverses Stapeley Hill east to west here; I've marked a line just under the dark green cross dyke here to help the unfamiliar spot the feature. A composite shot looking towards Corndon Hill, and Mitchell's Fold (out of view). It was snowing hard at this point on Midwinter Solstice Eve, and even I was questioning my sanity about being in this exposed, beautiful and dramatic landscape. A biting wind meant I did not stay here for any longer than necessary to get a shot, but on subsequent trips, it will be worth spending tim...

Stanton Moor 1

Stanton Moor 1 submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Mar 2009. With the aid of Paul & Vicky's "Rock Around the Peak" (still unbeatable for THE Peak District megalithic handbook), I made a determined search for this circle last Saturday. Basically, as you head north from the Nine Ladies along the more easterly of the routes, keep your eye open for the first field opening up to the east. Stanton Moor 1 is very close to its perimeter. If you can find Stanton Moor 3 in the other direction from Nine Ladies, then you have a good idea what to look for here. Th...

Stanton Drew - Avenue

Stanton Drew - Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Aug 2006. For evidence of the avenue, go past the NE circle, and look for the linear earthwork. The line is visible here on the LH corner of the picture; the group is on another part of the earthwork. Looking on the aerial pics, and on the ground, this can be traced from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock outside the Great and NE circles. I did have an excellent picture of this from the ground, but have accidentally overwritten it!
