Site Type: Hillfort Country: Wales (Conwy)

Caer Bach

Caer Bach submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. A view down on to Caer Bach, showing its prominent place above the Conwy Valley. This is taken ascending Tal y Fan mountain. There is a conspicuously white stone just left of centre; this stone is very large, and of different character than the other stones. In the valley below within the picture (but not visible) is the Roman port and fort of Canovium - an essential link in their North Wales strongholds.

Caer Caradoc (Church Stretton)

Caer Caradoc (Church Stretton) submitted by TimPrevett on 19th Nov 2003. To give an idea of the steepness of the ascent / descent (at times) of this Caer Caradoc; I sweated buckets going up this hill, and the long jolting, sliding descent made my legs feel like jelly when I at last reached level ground! This was taken looking N on the W side before the fog enveloped me and the hill!

Caer Drewyn

Caer Drewyn submitted by TimPrevett on 24th Oct 2005. Flying from Exeter to Liverpool, the plane went over North Devon, Minehead, Cardiff, the Brecon Beacons, heading NE at Builth Wells, then flying up over the Clwydian Range. Inbetween, I saw this hillfort pop out between the clouds. Having looked at other pictures and multimap aerial shots, I am fairly sure this is Dinas Bran just N from Llangollen.

Caer Leb

Caer Leb submitted by TimPrevett on 14th Apr 2004. Caer Leb is a rectilinear settlement enclosure, with double ditches and banks defining an area 200 feet by 160 feet. Some have interpreted it as a mediaeval homestead with moat (indeed, some of the ditches get very water logged). However, finds of a 3rd Century AD brooch, a 4th Century denarius of Postumus, and Roman pottery and quernstones date the site much earlier than mediaeval. Like the Din Lligwy Settlement, the CADW guidebook says it possibly has its origins earlier than the 3rd Century, ...

Caer-Dyni submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Apr 2006. Cupmarks? 3 concave indentations in this picture, another 2 further down off picture. Burial chambers on the Lleyn Peninsula do have a strong precedent of cupmarks. Apologies for the strong light / dark line - not a lot I could do about it on a day like this!
