St Constantine's Well

St Constantine's Well submitted by theendlessbreeze on 3rd Sep 2004. St Constantine's Well is located on the golf course on the road from Constantine to Harlyn. Follow the footpath through the course until you can take a left. Here you will find both the well and the remains of St Constantine's Chapel. Log Text: Leaving the jalopy in a private parking field we ventured towards an upward track and were met with a welcome from both meadow brown and red admiral butterflies tangling and flitting in provocative dance.

Beside the track grew an abundant array of nature's healers from evening primrose to yarrow and plantain, now providing sustenance for the hungry bumble.

Passing under various twisted arboreal canopies we reached the top of the track as we stepped on to the hallowed ground of those wielding clubs in the prospect of hitting little balls. I'm inclined to agree with the quote 'golf is a good walk spoilt'.

Stopping en route to the well to capture orchids on lens we spotted in the distance a large canopy - the well itself.

Upon reaching St Constantine's Well - smack in the middle of Trevose golf course, I descended the ten slate steps to the base of the well. I was rather perturbed to see an empty plastic water bottle in the well so I removed it to recycle.

We sat upon the edge on pieces of slate sipping tea from our thermos and soaked up the atmosphere from this holy place. The well spoke, albeit gentle and I felt I had to strain to listen with a mere human ear to its message.

Earth, air, fire, water, the perfect balance of unity as I agitated the crystal water with a corvid gift from the winged ones at this special place.
