Ephesus submitted by dodomad on 4th Oct 2015. An amulet figure that has been unearthed during excavations at the Çukuriçi mound in Ephesus has revealed that the ancient city is actually nine millennia old.
Made of black stone and believed to have been used as jewelry, the 2.1-centimeter amulet brings the history of Ephesus 9,000 years back – a full 1,000 years earlier than previously believed.

Ayasuluk Hill submitted by AlexHunger on 1st Oct 2007. Location of ancient Azawa city during the time of the Hittites. There is now a Byzantine/turkish fortress on the site as well as the remains of a 4th century CE basilica.
There were recent excavations which found the ancient fortifications as well as Mycanean artifacts when these carved out an enclave between Ephesus and Dydima. A small tholos an ceramics were found here.

Troy. submitted by AlexHunger on 27th Sep 2007. Sıte of Homer's Epıc. The aleged palace of Priam, whıch sıts on a stone foundatıon just lıke the town walls. The habitation itself would have been out of mud bricks.
The walls were angled ınward to reduce stress durıng the frequent earthquakes in the region.

Temple of Hephaestos submitted by AlexHunger on 22nd Aug 2006. Classic 5th century temple also known as the Theseon, after Theseus, since the midle ages when the pagan gods were forgotten. It is suposed to be the temple in the best condition in Greece, only rivaled by those in Sicilly.
