Newton Reigny Enclosure

Newton Reigny Enclosure submitted by Anne T on 26th Nov 2017. Standing at the gate to the field containing part of this enclosure, looking north. A series of low banks and ditches can be seen, largely to the left hand side of the small cluster of sheep. Not a huge amount to be seen, but this site is believed to be of Dark Ages origin, according to the Curator of Carlisle Museum.

Tair Carn Uchaf submitted by sem on 23rd Mar 2015. Cairn C This shot is taken from Tair Carn Isaf Cairn A, and Cairn C nestles beautifully in the notch. Cairn A seems to be relatively insignificant until you notice this 'sightline'. Move 5 yards in any direction and this effect vanishes. This cannot be pure chance!

St. Ninian's Bay

St. Ninian's Bay submitted by SumDoood on 21st May 2016. The stones would be, I reckon, about 4/10 in from the right, and roughly in line with the peninsula. I haven't yet visited this site, but took these from the A844 thinking that the peninsula looks like a good contender for the south of Scotland's equivalent of the Ness of Brodgar! There you are, I've said it now. The low island in the L half is Inchmarnock, known for its cist burials and the necklace which made it onto Neil Oliver's 2013 Ancient Britain tv series. Kinnerton

Kinnerton submitted by TheWhiteRider on 4th Jul 2005. We could only find one of the Kinerton Standing Stones. This one, just visible in the long grass is right next to a footpath. The other, according to the map, is just a little way down the road, but appears to be on private land and is hidden by a high hedge and other foliage. A visit during the Winter months may offer a glimpse of it.

Castle Dykes

Castle Dykes submitted by rich32 on 7th Jul 2004. Castle Dykes Henge, nr Aysgarth, North Yorkshire (SD98228728) The henge has a diameter of about 75m with the ditch being up to 2m in some places. There are entrances to the north, south & east, although only the eastern one is thought to be original and of antiquity. This henge is fairly well preserved, but as seems obligatory with our henges its covered in cow poo. This photo (looking east) does not really do the site justice.
