Piper's Crag Stone
Date Added: 27th Apr 2019
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 30th May 2015. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 3

Piper's Crag Stone submitted by andy_h on 17th May 2003. A prominent outcrop featuring deep Cup and Ring markings.
The Northern Edge of Ilkley Moor is strewn with marked rocks. Between the Swastika Stone and Piper's Crag Stone are The Anvil and The Sepulchre Stone, who's markings were unfortunately too worn to photograph well. This also applies to the nearby Neb Stone. A large upended rock with 'possible' cup marks, laying on other cup marked stones now built into a wall.

Pancake Ridge 02 submitted by Rich32 on 18th Apr 2019. Rock referenced 297 in Boughey & Vickerman's 2003 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding'. Subsequently recorded by the CSI:Rombalds Moor Project and added to ERA as Pancake Ridge 02.
This stone has several cup marks scattered about the upper surface. A couple of them may be best described as 'cup-like depressions', because it's difficult to be 100% about their artificiality.

Green Gates 02 submitted by andy_h on 7th May 2003. Cup and Ring marked boulder with an unusual 'half-flower' motif on northern face. Situated a few yards NNE of Badger Stone. Carry on down the hillside and you will eventually arrive at the Barmishaw Stone (now very badly faded, but featuring 'Ilkley Ladder' style markings), and further on to Willy Hall's Wood Stone amongst the trees. A line of stones that seem to follow the course of the spring which emerges at Willy Hall's spout.
