Hengistbury Head submitted by Thorgrim on 6th Aug 2003. Hengistbury Head (SZ 164910) is a long beach walk from Bournemouth and best approached on foot from Southbourne near Christchurch. Very long period of occupation with evidence of palaeolithic and mesolithic hunters. There are 13 Bronze Age round barrows and an Iron Age earthwork forming a promontory fort. Numerous finds particularly from the period after 7th century BC when the area became a major port trading with Gaul and the Mediterranean. Swift decline after the Romans came.

Inkpen Long Barrow submitted by JimChampion on 24th Jul 2005. A view of the east end of the barrow against the backdrop of rainclouds on a showery summer afternoon. The macarbe double-gibbet makes the site easy to find from the valley below. The erosion due to people walking the length of the barrow is visible in this picture: the info board says that various measures have been taken to try and limit wear and tear by the visitors to this great viewpoint.

Log Text: Caesar's Camp is located on area of the golf club, only the footpath leading through it's middle is under public right of way. However, the golf players did not mined very much when I took a walk around the hillfort.

St. Anne's Well (Caversham) submitted by DavidCWoods on 24th Jul 2005. There are single steps on either side to allow the visitor to see into the interior – clearly deep, the brick facing gives way to stone below ground level. Some greenery emerged from the walls, but the bottom of the shaft was visible.
