Grey Stone (Harewood)
Date Added: 26th Jan 2017
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 12th Nov 2016. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 4
Grey Stone (Harewood) submitted by DavidRaven on 13th Aug 2003. A large boulder in the grounds of the Harewood House estate near Harrogate.
A very worn carving of seven concentric rings lies on it's north-western flank. The carving faces out over the valley to the conspicuous outcrop called Almscliff Crag. Apparently, the midwinter full moon would have set
behind the crags at the lunar standstill in 1800 B.C.!
If you visit, watch out for the Red Kites and over zealous estate workers intent on preventing gentle tresspass!

Site Type: Rock Art
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 30th May 2015. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3

Green Gates 02 submitted by andy_h on 7th May 2003. Cup and Ring marked boulder with an unusual 'half-flower' motif on northern face. Situated a few yards NNE of Badger Stone. Carry on down the hillside and you will eventually arrive at the Barmishaw Stone (now very badly faded, but featuring 'Ilkley Ladder' style markings), and further on to Willy Hall's Wood Stone amongst the trees. A line of stones that seem to follow the course of the spring which emerges at Willy Hall's spout.
