St Blane's Chapel (Isle of Bute)

St Blane's Chapel (Isle of Bute) submitted by Anne T on 8th Oct 2017. This cross-base/socket stone is embedded within the ground in the lower (southern part) of the graveyard. There is apparently another cross base 70m north of the chancel, although we were unable to find this.

Inverewe

Inverewe submitted by andy_h on 14th Aug 2006. To be found in the ruined churchyard up the turning by the campsite, re-used as a grave slab. The stone is located at the back end of the ruined church and is a little hard to find, as it is very worn and looks much like other grave slabs around it. It depicts a crescent and a 'V'. Another Pictish stone can be seen in Gairloch Heritage Museum, which depicts a fish and the lower part of an eagle.

Log Text: Visited without doing research first. I was looking for two stones. The upright stone is easy to spot but the recumbent one is a bit more difficult. I did find a recumbent stone that looked about right, but it was not the right one. I suppose it is possible that there were once more standing stones at this spot, but the proximity of the cliff means that at least some of the large slabs are probably natural.

Gors Fawr Stone Circle submitted by Horatio on 22nd Jun 2019. Summer Solstice sunrise at Gors Fawr 2019. Taken on my phone. As I stood behind everyone I thought 'just how many people over the thousands of years have stood in my place and watched this and how many more to come in the following years to replace me' It was a truly moving, 'spiritual' experience. It was a long day yesterday (not just because the hours of sunlight) as sunrise here, then work (in east Carmarthenshire) and then back to N Pembs for the sunset at Pentre Ifan burial ch...

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by sem on 25th Aug 2004. Looking SW,the view here is outstanding. This must have been a very sought after plot of Neolithic real-estate.It is set in a hollow on the cliffside lined with stones bigger than any but the capstone.Children & Nash suggest "no covering mound would have existed because the ledge.....is far too narrow." Nevern Churchyard Cross submitted by vicky on 10th Dec 2003. The Nevern Great Cross, often described as ‘one of the most perfect specimens of its kind’. It stands in the churchyard at Nevern in Pembrokeshire, not far from the famous tomb of Pentre Ifan. It is believed to date to the 10th or 11th century. Close by is an avenue of ancient yew trees, one of which is said to bleed.

Westerton (Aberlemno) submitted by Nick on 5th Nov 2002. From Forfar head easton the A932 Friockeim road. Turn north onto the un-numbered Aberlemno road by Balgavies Loch, until a small crossroads is reached. Just north of this junction you will see the stone in a field on your left (west side of the road.) This is an unassuming stone, no marks, standing about 1.2m high. Flat-faced, with the faces approximately due south-east/north-west.
