Chun Quoit

Chun Quoit submitted by sem on 16th Jun 2005. The capstone and the horizon. There is a theory that dolmens (or quoits as they are known in Cornwall) were not totally covered in earth but the capstones were left uncovered and were a copy of the horizon. I have manipulated the tones in this shot to show this, but no shapes have been altered.

An almost vertical view of Chûn Castle, this photo is composed of 45 Kite Aerial photograph s that have been stitched together using Microsoft ICE, I think this image is slightly warped but it does give a good overview of Chûn Castle. The bottom of the photograph is roughly north. 10 April 2010

Cheriton Ridge 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 23rd Feb 2011. This stone setting is easily found, even though the four standing stones are each no more than a foot tall. At first, the four standers seem to be four stones of a six pack, with the other two still in place but broken.

Log Text: This row can be a tricky one to get to. The easiest way involves crossing a river on foot and utmost care needs to be taken. A visit should not be contemplated after heavy rain and even at others times this is not one to be visited alone. If any doubt do not attempt the crossing. Car parking is available at SN 85314 20324. From the car parking area carefully cross the river and then head uphill and northwards towards the row. The stones in this row are all tiny and a careful search will be required to find them. Good luck.

Castell Bach (Pen y Graig) submitted by pab on 13th Apr 2008. Castell Bach, near Pen y Graig Farm, as seen from the coastal path between New Quay and Llangranog, Ceredigion. RCAHMW lists the site as having an 'enclosure complex' with a 90m stretch of rampart & ditch at the edge of a plain, about 100-130m across. The severe coastal erosion has destroyed much of the original area, but it has left a unique cross section across the ditch which is visible over the bay.
