Woodbarrow Stone Setting submitted by thecaptain on 21st Apr 2008. I eventually found four stones hidden in the long grass, each of which was about 2-3 feet in length.

Log Text: Car parking is available at SS 72444 40419. From here take the footpath north to SS 72311 42209. Turn left and follow the path to SS 72037 42305. Head towards the gateway at SS 71665 42141 and then walk north westward uphill to the row.

Furzehill Common 5 submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Jul 2010. I found at least six still standing stones up to two feet tall hiding amongst the ferns on the hillside, some of which were nicely shaped.

Furzehill Common 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 14th May 2010. Supposedly a stone setting of three stones, I found one stone standing just over a foot high surrounded by couch grass.

Log Text: Limited car parking is available at SS 71410 44956 at Shallowford. From here head east along the path to SS 71818 44908 at which point turn south and follow the track to SS 72602 43860. Leave the track and head south to the gate at SS 72754 43552. The row is a short distance upslope from here.

Due to the explicit request not to go off the path, I did not get much evidence of the stone row. This was maddeningly frustrating, given its imminent proximity! However, having studied the map, I went back to where the car was parked, turned left further up the track, and then left up another track, where it intersects the stone row (fenced off with barbed wire). Log Text: This is not an easy row to reach. Car parking is available at SS 83523 42234. From here follow the footpath west past the Madacombe stone row and then head west to SS 80073 43241. The row is a short distance to the east. Having made the effort it is worth having look at the nearby rows at East Pinford and Trout Hill.

Log Text: This is not an easy row to reach. Car parking is available at SS 83523 42234. From here follow the footpath west past the Madacombe stone row and then head towards the footbridge at SS 80325 42848. After crossing the river follow the footpath to SS 79811 42666. Then head north west to the row. Having made the effort it is worth having look at the nearby rows at Tom’s Hill and Trout Hill.

Could I find anything ? No chance !!!! I found nothing at all, wading around in waist deep wet grass and heather. If there are any stones to be found here, they are well hidden under the wet moorland growth. I did however, get soaking wet and a twisted ankle for my efforts !

It was seen by Exmoor National Park staff in 2018 and I have seen the photographs. I am going to try again when I am next on Exmoor.

Log Text: Limited car parking is available at SS 71410 44956 at Shallowford. From here head east along the path to SS 71818 44908 at which point turn south and follow the track to SS 72602 43860. Leave the track and head north east to the row. For some reason the area around the row was at the time of the fieldwork particularly infested with ticks. Take care.

Cheriton Ridge 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 23rd Feb 2011. This stone setting is easily found, even though the four standing stones are each no more than a foot tall. At first, the four standers seem to be four stones of a six pack, with the other two still in place but broken.
