Site Type: Broch or Nuraghe
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 1997. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 4

Dun Carloway submitted by swatson on 28th Aug 2004. This impressive Broch is near Carloway in the west of the Island of Lewis. Sadly time did not permit detailed exploration but that's something to look forward to at a later date. There is enough of this tower standing to indicate the method and the superb workmanship involved in it's construction.

Date Added: 17th Feb 2021
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 1998. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 4

Easter Aquhorthies submitted by Umbra-man on 20th Mar 2020. 20 Mar 20. This years Spring EQ sunrise. Horizon slightly obscured by cloud, while the rest of the sky was.... 99% clear ! Sub zero by a few degrees made for chilly camera fingers, but even for the ancients this must have been a special place and time of the year. In the Neolithic calendar this is the start of spring. For folk that came later (Celts/Picts/Pagans) this is the season of Imbolc.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 1998. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 1 Access 5
The Langstane submitted by cosmic on 29th Mar 2004. The Langstane at NJ938059 is situated only 30m from one of Aberdeen's main thoroughfares at the junction of Dee Street and Lanstane Place. It is embedded into a recess at the back of a branch of a well known fastfood restaurant.
It appears close to its present site on G&W Paterson's 1746 map of Aberdeen but it is suspected that it may have been part of a stone circle on the West side of the Denburn. Another stone, the Crab Stane, appears on the same map.
