Bradup circle
Date Added: 18th Oct 2014
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 18th Oct 2014. My rating: Condition -1

Bradup circle submitted by andy_h on 4th May 2004. Visited here to investigate reports that the circle had been destroyed and yup, it's gone! A sad cluster of rocks heaved out and dumped near the style still bear JCB marks and the field in which the circle stood has been stripped down to the soil and is now grassed over.
This was a listed, protected monument and I'm sure the landowner can be prosecuted if the destruction was carried out without permission.
Local folklore also tells that a number of stones were taken from the circle to bui...

Piper's Crag Stone
Date Added: 18th Oct 2014
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 18th Oct 2014

Piper's Crag Stone submitted by andy_h on 17th May 2003. A prominent outcrop featuring deep Cup and Ring markings.
The Northern Edge of Ilkley Moor is strewn with marked rocks. Between the Swastika Stone and Piper's Crag Stone are The Anvil and The Sepulchre Stone, who's markings were unfortunately too worn to photograph well. This also applies to the nearby Neb Stone. A large upended rock with 'possible' cup marks, laying on other cup marked stones now built into a wall.

Swastika Stone 01 submitted by andy_h on 17th May 2003. The swastika motif is now badly worn, but is still possible to see a cross of cups, five by five, surrounded by four curved arms. The right hand one ending in a loop and cup mark.
