Bedd Arthur
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 21st Jul 2006

Bedd Arthur submitted by pab on 21st Jul 2006. Setting the scale: Looking due East over Bedd Arthur, it actually looks much smaller than expected from many pictures, and this one lets the landscape re-assert itself rather well! From the same spot, Carn Leidi near St David's was also visible looking due West

Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 17th Dec 2006

St Govan's Well submitted by pab on 17th Dec 2006. St Govan had rather a fine view from his chapel and well! The 'slodge' of colour in the cliffs across the bay is far more recent, caused by a rock fall in the last year...close-up to follow!

Carreg Coetan Arthur submitted by pab on 23rd Jun 2007. Site in Pembrokeshire (Sir Benfro)
Despite being surrounded by bungalows, this site is still one I find difficult to pass without a few minutes pause. I love the lichen in this shot from 2005 - often gracing my computer's desktop, which seems a good mix of eras!

Carn Briw
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 21st Oct 2007

Carn Briw submitted by pab on 21st Oct 2007. Carn Briw, from the northern slopes of Mynydd Ingli, on which the wonderful Carn Ingli 'sits' - or should that be 'is enthroned'?
COFLEIN refers to this as simply "A disturbed cairn, 17m in diameter and 1.8m high." The name Carn Briw in fact means just ...'shattered heap of stones'!
What a sad name for such an atmospheric place.

Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Dec 2007

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by PAB on 1st Dec 2007. Taken 1st December 2007. Most pictures give the impression that Kings Quoit is right on the edge of a precipice, which is slightly misleading. This one was taken from the beach on 1st Dec, between some very heavy showers!

Skomer Stone

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 19th Jul 2008

Skomer Stone submitted by pab on 19th Jul 2008. The stone referred to on the Portal as Skomer stone - also referred to in leaflets as 'Harold Stone' - is close to remains of 'huts, fields and cairns which represent one of the most complete areas of pre-historic settlement in the British Isles'.
I have to admit however that, on this occasion, ancient sites hardly featured in my photos when I visited for the first time in July 2008 - puffins landing & walking within feet of me won without contest. I think the undergrowth would have to be ...

Victoria Bay
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: Wales (Pembrokeshire)
Visited: Yes on 25th Jul 2008

Victoria Bay submitted by pab on 25th Jul 2008. Victoria Bay Hillfort. Close to Marloes, and facing across to Gateholm and Skokholm Islands, the series of defensive ramparts and ditches can easily be seen from along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
As can be seen from this photo taken from the east, the cliffs along this stretch provide a very good barrier. This leaves a relatively short landward stretch to be defended.
The triple defensive arc is ringed.
