Cerrig y Gof submitted by PaulM on 24th Aug 2001. CERRIG Y GOF CHAMBERS NGR: SN03633889 (Landranger map 145/Outdoor Leisure North Pembrokeshire map (No 35)) Five cists arranged in an oval are visible from a field entrance west of Newport on the A487(T) in Pembrokeshire in SW Wales. Apparently the farmer does not mind considerate visitors entering the field to look. May have been in use into the Bronze Age and covered by an oval mound.

Cerrig Duon stone circle

Cerrig Duon stone circle submitted by pab on 2nd Jan 2008. Newly split stones. Just north of Cerrig Duon, there are many split and/or splitting stones scattered around. Fascinated (but not very knowledgeable) as I am by geology, I particularly liked this one which had obviously come apart fairly recently, as the 2 parts fitted together perfectly. I assume that the severe temperature changes up here mean that frost can get into the layers in the sedimentary rocks and eventually erode & split them apart? This one was about 1m long, in a stream near...

Cat Hole Cave

Cat Hole Cave submitted by pab on 29th Jan 2013. Cat Hole Cave interior. As access seems no longer possible, I thought people might like to see some photos from inside the cave. This shows one of the recesses at the back of the cave - there were many niches like this, most being very narrow. We didn't have particularly good lighting, so couldn't investigate properly. Seeing the cave definitely helped me understand the description of how the art was found, and how it might have been missed for so long too. Photo taken 28 Sept 2...

Castell Bach (Pen y Graig)

Castell Bach (Pen y Graig) submitted by pab on 13th Apr 2008. Castell Bach, near Pen y Graig Farm, as seen from the coastal path between New Quay and Llangranog, Ceredigion. RCAHMW lists the site as having an 'enclosure complex' with a 90m stretch of rampart & ditch at the edge of a plain, about 100-130m across. The severe coastal erosion has destroyed much of the original area, but it has left a unique cross section across the ditch which is visible over the bay. RCAHMW also reports the complex to have included circular features identifia...

Carreg Samson, Abercastle

Carreg Samson, Abercastle submitted by pab on 26th Jun 2006. Confirming both the photo and the site as worthy winner of the Spring 2006 prize! We loved the long late afternoon shadows, and the one of the 'principal sheep' made us realise that many ancient animal drawings make more sense if thought of as shadow tracings? The theory falls down rather for cave paintings though! One wonderful thing about this site is the fact that there is a 'CL' campsite next to the field - what a view to wake up to!

Carreg Coetan Arthur submitted by pab on 23rd Jun 2007. Site in Pembrokeshire (Sir Benfro) Despite being surrounded by bungalows, this site is still one I find difficult to pass without a few minutes pause. I love the lichen in this shot from 2005 - often gracing my computer's desktop, which seems a good mix of eras!

Carreg Bica Cairn

Carreg Bica Cairn submitted by PAB on 5th Oct 2010. Carreg Bica - general view, looking southeast. The shape of the barrow is clear and striking, providing excellent panoramic views. The stone cairn is clearly a fairly 'modern' construct - and the marker is one of the boundary markers which go right round the Elan Valley Estate - about 65 miles apparently.
