Tobar Chaluim Chille (Mull)
Date Added: 22nd May 2011
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Scotland (Isle of Mull)
Visited: Would like to visit
Tobar Chaluim Chille (Mull) submitted by KiwiBetsy on 6th Oct 2006. Tobar Chaluim Chille today is marked only by a pair of distinguished lichen clad stones but the landowner speaks of a stick holding a cup in recent history. The water is apparently still used in St Kilda’s Church, Lochbuie for christenings and it may be the unidentified well near Loch Buie whose medicinal properties were mentioned in a 17th century account of the area.

"Earth, sky and ancestors.
The path before you leads uphill to the chambered cairn of Barpa Langais. Tombs like this were built all over the islands by Neolithic farming communities, but this is the best preserved example in the Outer hebrides. It has never been investigaed by modern archaeologists, but it belongs to a group of monuments built about 5000 years ago, thus it is one of the earliest st...

Pobull Fhinn
Date Added: 9th Feb 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (North Uist)
Visited: Yes on 27th Sep 2011

Pobull Fhinn submitted by pab on 27th Sep 2011. Built on a artificial platform, leveling, this oval 'circle' is described in early RCAHms reports as being 122ft E-W and 100ft N-S.
The reports state that there are 23 or 24 stones in total, but the amount of heather/bracken at the time of our visit meant that only the larger ones were visible.

Unstan submitted by PAB on 15th Jan 2021. As seen from the road....so decided to have a look! It is always nice to come across something unexpectedly, and we hadn't really researched very well before arriving in Orkney (sorry Portal, awful, I know!).
As is obvious from the photos already posted, it was the right decision...

Links of Noltland submitted by PAB on 22nd Jun 2016. June 2016 – The team of archaeologists starting the 2016 season of excavations this week are first having to deal with the results of an Orkney winter - the winds have covered some of the site with 'new' sand, and uncovered other parts of last year's excavations.
The 'sauna' referred to in last year's postings and uncovered in 2015 will be one of the focal points of the excavations – it was established in 2015 that is an almost perfectly preserved house, with a stairwell leading down in...

Bretta Ness submitted by PAB on 11th Jan 2021. The Archaeological Notes for Bretta Ness on Canmore do not offer a definitive period or purpose for this small feature off the eastern edge of the Loch of Wasbister.
Follow the link in the Comments below to read further....
It was however significant enough to catch my attention when driving down towards the loch, so I took some photos intending to follow it up.

Wasbister
Date Added: 16th Jan 2021
Site Type: Crannog
Country: Scotland (Orkney)
Visited: Yes on 12th Jan 2021

Wasbister submitted by PAB on 12th Jan 2021. The Burrian, island in the Loch of Wasbister.
As can be seen from the many comments on the Portal's site page, there is significant disagreement about the original and subsequent function and use of this island in the Loch of Wasbister.
From my very fleeting visit, I can offer no opinion apart from the fact that it was striking enough for curiosity to lead me to take some photos for subsequent investigation!
Canmore offers lots of possibilities, link in Comments.

To save people climbing up, this shows what the top looks like!
