Log Text: Little search in the woods but well worth the visit. Difficult to take pictures because it is a large site and trees get in the way. I believe there is a second Allee Couverte less than 100 meters away.

Allée couverte du Sigré

Allée couverte du Sigré submitted by oldman on 3rd Oct 2018. Site in Bretagne:Morbihan (56) France. This may not be the Allee couverte but it did appear to be two rows of stones with a larger one at the end. Thick undergrowth and woods make it difficult to search effectively.

Log Text: Can't be sure that we found this site. We followed the path in the wood to about the right area and searched around, assisted by a friendly local dog.

Log Text: Finding this allee couverte was not very easy. Our sat nav stopped us by a field telling us that the tomb was due South of our position. We crossed to the far edge of the field where the ground rose steeply through a wood. I climbed with some difficulty through the wood as there were no discernable paths and then saw the tumulus which contains the allee couvert above me. It is a wonderful place. very atmospheric. After taking photographs I followed a slight path along the ridge and found that the site could be approached from the East via a farm track and a path through the wood. I guess that permission should be sought if this is the desired approach as there are many properte privee notices as one leaves the farm track. They are probably there only to deter Cep hunters.

Anchor Church submitted by ESgt on 16th Oct 2011. Anchor Church, at the point where R.Trent turns eastward from flowing south.

Log Text: Quite an adventure approaching the caves from the Ingleby side. Very narrow and tortuous path with possibility of falling into the Trent in many places. Worth the hike but my advice would be to approach from the other direction which is much easier (our return route). The footpath also leads to the Danish barrow cemetery if you want a longer walk.

Ash Hill Long Barrow submitted by Andy B on 23rd Jan 2011. Steve Fuller wrote: I do not have any photos as such but I do have some video footage and have taken a still from it looking north along the track at the farm. As I said it is very overgrown although the barrow is very visible through the thorns if you go to have a look. Sunday afternoons probably best.

Bartlow Hills

Bartlow Hills submitted by Thorgrim on 17th Jul 2003. This is the largest barrow in Britain and very few people know of it. This Romano-British site at Bartlow is on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border at TL 586453. Originally the largest group in Europe when there were seven enormous barrows here. Then the now disused railway came through and flattened four of them! The largest survivor is 45 feet high and the highest in Britain by far. The wooden staicase gives access to the top without causing erosion. You can then look down on the other ...

Site Type: Chambered Tomb Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2018

Log Text: We tried to find this tomb when visiting Jardin-aux-Moines tumulus as it is quite nearby. The coordinates given for this site are in the same wood but in an impenetrable section so we had to give up especially after my wife came face to face with an aspic viper.
