Dolmen dit de la Madeleine

Dolmen dit de la Madeleine submitted by hewpop on 25th Sep 2007. Sainte-Madeleine dolmen aka. Pierre Madeleine. Actually on the southern-most tip of an island in the river La Vienne, at Saint-Germaine-de-Confolens, not the town of Confolens downstream. View from the SW.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: It would be truer to say we tried to visit this site. We did find someone who knew of its existence but the access is over a private bridge to the island. A boat might be useful. Not possible to get close enough on either side of the river to take a picture.

Dolmen du Marchais

Date Added: 2nd Oct 2018
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Vendée (85))
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2016. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Dolmen du Marchais

Dolmen du Marchais submitted by oldman on 2nd Oct 2018. I'm 6ft so you can see the scale of this dolmen
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: The capstone on this dolmen is absolutely vast. It is accessed down a narrow footpath and then has a narrow ring of ground around it so it is difficult to get far enough away to photograph except from the approach path. It towers above you because you have to stand so close to it. There is a plaque saying it was given to the community by the owner in 1953 stuck high up on the capstone. I guess its condition as a 4 but an expert may say its damaged and should be a 3.

Eylias Dolmen submitted by oldman on 26th Oct 2019. Site in Aquitaine:Dordogne (24) France View from the other side. The capstone is resting on just two stones with others piled around the sides hidden by the tree
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: A nice little dolmen in the middle of vines marked by a single tree. It is not visible until you are right on top of it so coordinates 44.689378, 0.395161 are more useful than the ones currently given for the site

Flagstaff Hill

Date Added: 13th Dec 2018
Site Type: Stone Circle Country: England (Somerset)
Visited: Yes on 6th Dec 2018

Flagstaff Hill

Flagstaff Hill submitted by richbaber on 14th May 2015. Flagstaff Hill stone circle
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Well I really don't think that this is the remains of a stone circle. It is an interesting hillside with lots of lumps and bumps but it appears to be made up of old stone walls and green lanes. The 12 stones mentioned here are aligned and appear to run along a lane which if you walk to the boundary of the neighbouring property continues on the other side of the fence and has large stones running down its sides.

Garde Epée dolmen

Garde Epée dolmen submitted by TheCaptain on 28th Jul 2007. Garde Epée dolmen suffers from graffitti and rubbish, but is otherwise well looked after in a little clearing amongst the vines with its own sign. It can be found just to the south of the D.157 road, a couple of kilometres west of Jarnac.
