This magnificent standing stone lives beside the busy A40 just inside the entrance to the Welsh Brigade army camp just to the south of Crickhowell. Over 4 metres high, “The Growing Stone” looks most impressive, and has a pleasant grass and trees area around it.

This close-up of the stone in the bank of the track shows it to be remarkably intact and erect considering the proximity of the Forestry track - but perhaps I am being unduly cynical
The height from earth to top on the outer face was approx 1.1m. RCAHMW described Stone 2 as "An erect monolith, 0.84m high by 0.64m by 0.51m, possibly destroyed by falling trees" in 1981, so it would be an amazing rediscovery and recovery for the stone in the p...

The cross-slab dates from between the 7th-9th century CE and has a cross and two curious figures carved onto it. And an inscription recalls the name Moridic.
The slab is also decorated with cord-plait interlacing and key patterning.

The larger of the two Bronze age stone circles is 23m in diameter with at least 21 surviving stones at pits suggest at least 3 more. There is a slight mound in the circle may cover a burial.

The smaller of the two Bronze age stone circles, This circle has only four stones remaining with possible slots four 4 more. An alignment of what was four stones (2 remain with two sockets) runs for about 30m to the south west from the circle.

High on Llangynidir mountain, Carreg Waen Llech is an attractive standing stone sited in an area commanding impressive views of the Black Mountains. The stone is over six feet in height and has attractive and unusual pitting on its east and west faces.

Cerrig Duon (Black Stones) is a 60' x 57' slightly egg-shaped ring of about 22 stones no more than 2' high. The most prominent feature is the outlier, Maen Mawr, standing 30' to the north.
