Nine Ladies submitted by PaulM on 1st Sep 2001. Nine Ladies Stone Circle (aka Stanton Moor 2), Derbyshire GR: SK249635
Nine Ladies is a typical Derbyshire circle consisting of nine visible small standing stones embedded in a grassed over stone rubble bank approximately 11.5m by 10.5m in diameter. The site is the most popular in Derbyshire and much in the media spotlight due to quarrying plans in the area.
The stones are all composed of local millstone grit and none are taller than one metre in height. The bank has now all but disappea...

Log Text: Used to live a few minutes from this site. Recumbent is short and squat; other stones are stumpy and some are hidden in bushes. Lots of deer live in the woods.
Auld Kirk O Tough
Date Added: 26th Feb 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 29th Oct 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 2

Auld Kirk O Tough submitted by megalithicmatt on 2nd Nov 2011. Photo looking south-ish. One of only two stones standing. A drystane dyke lines up with this stone but whether or not it stands in its original position is unclear as the site is badly damaged.
A bank curves round behind the stones to the north and a vague hump, possibly the remains of a cairn, lies in the centre.
The drystane dyke further down the field towards Denwell farmyard has several large and long stones built into the base.

Log Text: Longish walk uphill needed to get there from the Corrennie Wood minor road. The site is very small and damaged from earthworks and a drystane dyke. Met an old farmer there who reminisced about long winters 70 years ago.

Broomend Of Crichie Stone Circle / Henge
Date Added: 26th Feb 2012
Site Type: Henge
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 4th Oct 2007. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

Broomend Of Crichie Stone Circle / Henge submitted by megalithicmatt on 30th Oct 2011. A section of Richard Bradley's excavation (ended Oct 2007) which shows a slightly elongated (8 x 8.5m) circle of post holes abutting the henge and built across the southern avenue line.
Bradley believed these could be evidence of a 'wood henge' since the post holes are larger than those of a conventional hut circle. If so, this would be the most northerly known one in Britain.
