Avort Dolmen submitted by Martin_L on 27th Dec 2023. A splendid large Angevin dolmen somewhat hidden in remains of its barrow. Also heavily overgrown with brambles on most sides in Summer 2022. With some difficulties it was possible to gain access to the chamber.

Hence a kind representative of species Homo sapiens sapiens has been placed beside it to serve as a 6ft/1,83m scale in this photo. Taken in July 2022 by Peanut Bucovsky.

Tanum 72:1 Tegneby submitted by Martin_L on 27th Oct 2011. Inverted and adjusted photo from 1993 when the site was not painted. The glacially smoothened granite surface is partly well preserved here. To give an idea of the scale: Length of the riders is 27cm - 36cm [1]. One horse is unfinished (unfinished carvings occur very often). Anthropomorph upper left in adoring posture with undulating line in front. Possibly similar to more obvious carvings of humans with snakes.

[Info for other film photography afficionados: photograph has been taken with a Riken Ricoh Super 44 a twin lens reflex camera dating back to 1958. As the name suggests it produces ~4x4cm negatives on 127 format rollfilm. The film used has been from a 1972 expired batch of 3M Ferrania Black&White 200ASA film. Stand developed in a 1:120 dilution of Kodak HC 110. ]

Croix de Saint-Mathieu (1) submitted by Martin_L on 5th Aug 2022. June 2022. The sublime 3,5m ancient monolithic cross is located at the entrance to a small path just NE of the Chapelle Notre-Dame des Grâces at Pointe de Saint-Mathieu. Slightly tilting.
The cross is made of mica schist. Attributed to middle ages.

Menhir von Brachstedt submitted by Martin_L on 6th Aug 2022. View down from the top of the barrow. In June 2022 the barrow has been overgrown with various grasses and beautiful trees. The site consists of an impressive prehistoric barrow (height 3m, diameter 20-25m) with a standing stone (clear height ~1,6m) on top of it. It is attributed to neolithic age.

Moulin de la Butte Menhir (Gennes) submitted by Martin_L on 7th Aug 2022. A small (approx. 1,3m), but nice standing stone at the junction of two unpaved driveways. As it is in a quite obvious position and not mentioned in the Inventaire des mégalithes de la France - Maine et Loire by Dr. Michel Gruet it is probably not of prehistoric origin. Nevertheless a pleasant site.

Berghofen Huegelgrab submitted by Martin_L on 8th Aug 2022. Although eroded down to a height of 0,5m the barrow has a nice ambience. And it is rare to have a barrow surviving so close to large habitations. It is more distinct in reality though it may be hard to detect for laymen. This is due to the tree and bush growth and also the slightly undulating woodland plateau. But once i pointed it out to the companions they were able to trace it. In the centre various loose stones and some objects related to paganism are detectable. April 2022
