Figgy Dowdy's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 26th Aug 2006. According to RootsWeb.com, this well is also known as Maggy Figgy and Margery Daw and was a popular place to christen your doll on Good Friday. The well has been restored by the Carn Marth Preservation Group and is kept locked as a safety measure. I’m sure Figgy Dowdy would approve of this as the rhyme ….
Figgy Dowdy had a well
On the top of Carn Marth hill
And she locked it night and day
Lest they took her water away
…. is associated with the well.

St Mawe's Well submitted by theendlessbreeze on 13th Oct 2005. The well is found in the old part of town, up the hill, past the Victory Inn. The sign says the well dates from the 6th Century, the arch 15th Century.

A decorated wheel-head on a rectangular shaft. The front face is decorated with a patriarchal cross with two sets of side limbs with the figure of Christ with arms outstretched. On the rear of the head is a Latin cross in relief. Found on the footpath leading from Trevease farm to Trengrove farm.
