This small square chapel is located to the south-east of the main Philae temple between the colonnade and Trajan's Kiosk.
Emhotep was originaly the architect of Jozer who built the stepped pyramid at Saqquara. Later he was deified as he was seen as a favourite of Thoth. Eventually he became an Egyptian version of Aesclaepsius, the healing god.

N24.02551 E32.88446
Elevation 122 Meters.
East-West orientation.
Egypt was the bread basket of Rome and Trajan was very eager to maintain good relations with the Egyptians when he built this charming enclosure in 105 CE. It was probably used as a resting place for visiting dignitaries. The reliefs show Trajan offering paying his respects to Isis, Osiris and Horus.
This structure was also saved from its watery resting place in the late 70s, well after all the other Nubi...

Khafre's Pyramid submitted by Thorgrim on 13th Feb 2005. The most awesome experience is to enter the Pyramid of Khafre at Giza. Is it just a coincidence that Giza is located exactly 30 degrees and zero minutes from the equator? (Cairo is 30 degrees 1 minute North) Just think about it - some time before 2,500 BC, the Egyptians of the Old Kingdom placed the Sphinx and the great pyramids exactly one third of the way up from the equator and two thirds of the way down from the north pole. With all that space to go at - it must have been deliberate and pro...

The pyramid had a casing eventually, though this is now lost.
