Log Text: It was a dreary, drizzly day, perfect for a hike of discovery just outside the borders of The Cairngorms National Park. It was less than an hour from where we parked off the main road (you'll know the spot by the teeny-tiny horse that greeted us on the other side of a fence; although its been more than ten years, so he must have grown much larger by now). It was a flat walk the whole way. The damp forest and no other visitors added to the ambiance.
We didn't have a GPS phone with us in 2014, but after estimating where it ought to be along the trail we found the Blue Cairn nearly completely obscured by moss and ferns. Luckily, the stone circle was a bit more visible, and that clued us in.
Because of the foliage, it was difficult to estimate; but I would say that the cairn's footprint was 90% intact. The roof was gone, of course, and the whole mound rose no higher than three feet above the surrounding area. It was possible to make out the layout of some chambers if you moved some moss out of the way.
I worry the ferns may have done a lot of damage in the years since our visit. To me, its a shame, because we have nothing like this where I'm from. While you have so many you can't preserve every one. I hope someone takes up the plight of this one some day.

Log Text: I visited this site in July, 2014, and spoke to the owners of the home here. They informed me that there was once one standing stone here, but it was moved to the Kirkhill churchyard, a short distance away. They were kind enough to give me directions.
