Lligwy Burial Chamber

Lligwy Burial Chamber submitted by Jimwithnoname on 8th Sep 2011. Amazing dolmen and very unnerving sat underneath the 25 ton capstone. It's perched on very little it seems on the one side. The warden approached us as we sat eating at the site. He asked if we were thinking of stopping the night, which we were, but as he said. that's a no no. We respected him and moved on after our picnic. He was quite pleasant and only doing his job. Many people wild camp as he said, and set fire to crops or drive through hedges!

Presaddfed

Presaddfed submitted by pab on 25th Sep 2012. Presaddfed, September 2012 Timber support which features in most photos on Portal has now been removed, so the more southerly chamber looks even better. Delightful location - the walk over the field feels more like a procession, with the chambers looking more impressive all the time.

Log Text: It's a steep climb whether your walking or driving but well worth the effort. If you can find the youth hostel at the top of the hill your almost there. Keep going up the track until you see a single standing stone, and just ahead on the right is this magnificent dolmen.

St Beuno's Well (Tremeirchion)

St Beuno's Well (Tremeirchion) submitted by KiwiBetsy on 6th Dec 2004. A door in the wall allows access to a narrow ledge around the pool and steps leading down into the water suggest that this was both a healing well and one used for baptisms by St Beuno. The waters had a reputation for healing eye complaints. The well is currently cared for by the land owner who also runs a B&B in the nearby house. The day we visited, he was in the process of giving the well it’s annual clean out so the water level was down and sadly not overflowing through the grotesque...

St Winefrides Well

St Winefrides Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 26th Nov 2004. Outdoor rectangular bathing pool containing the submerged St Beuno’s Stone which can be seen in the photo nearer to the front of the pool than the steps and hand rail in the rear left corner. The well chamber behind the pool is a fine example of late perpendicular architecture creating an almost square crypt covering the wellhead. Around the well, graceful columns rise to support an elaborate vaulted roof which in turn supports St Winifrede’s Chapel above. Once, steps led from the well up...
