Date Added: 30th Jun 2024
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 7th Mar 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4

Helmichsteine submitted by Martin_L on 5th Feb 2018. Helmichsteine in 2018. Viewed from the North-West. The long chamber is more than halfways filled with earth (possibly remains of the eroded barrow). Capstone C2 (counting from the West) is almost preserved in situ and seen at top centre. While this western chamber part has preserved most orthostats in situ the eastern part is severely damaged most parts of the megalith skeleton have been robbed in historic times.

The East-West orientated chamber measures 12,5m x 3m (clear 10,5m x 1,6m). 3 out of probably 8 capstones are completely preserved, but fallen into the chamber like fragments of two other capstones. Except for one orthostat in the NE, all orthostats are preserved, but some are slightly out of place as a result of the destruction activities.

Driehausen Grosssteingrab
Date Added: 30th Jun 2024
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 7th Mar 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

Driehausen Grosssteingrab submitted by Martin_L on 1st Oct 2009. Central part of this impressive large chamber viewed from the South-East. The central capstones are out of place as several orthostats of the northern long-side were moved during "excavations" by the Graf (Earl) Münster in the beginning of the 19th century. Nowadays unfortunately it is badly neglected and suffers further damage by heavy tree growth inside the chamber. (2007)
