Valley of Stones quarry submitted by Andy B on 21st Aug 2025. Possible Prehistoric Standing Stone found in Past Participate Brickworks Excavation. Drs Anne Teather and Hayley Roberts write: We had a very successful 2025 excavation season at the site of a brick kiln and possible clay working area in the Valley of Stones National Nature Reserve. It was probably built by the Bridehead Estate (as it is on their land) and used to make bricks for the farm buildings on the estate. Log Text: An interesting site. Particularly with reference to the existence of the polisoir, and nearby sites of a similar age. Also interesting for moss, lichens & fungi.
