Log Text: Woodhenge Pömmelte called The German Stonehenge because “ it may be comparable to other monuments, such as the world-famous Stonehenge in the South of England”.
However it is a woodhenge not a stone one, so it should be compared to the much less famous Woodhenge with much less importance in the South of England, situated some miles from Stonehenge.
Maybe its less importance is the reason that the leading archeologists of Pömmelte did not choose it for comparison or they did not know its existence .
While in the English Woodhenge - very wisely - the ancient wood columns were replaced with only short and simply wood columns, in Pömmelte they tried to built something bizarre, with colored and carved columns plus the built - not reconstructed - gates. All of it has nothing to do with the proven past. Like in Ireland the outside of Newgrange. But there at least for protection and only for outside. Because of it the ambiance is much more worse than ordinary.
They mentioned that this circle may be after the NEBRA SKY DISK, what is ridiculous, it’s only purpose is the marketing as the Nebraska Sky Disk - can be seen in Halle Museum not so far - is the first known object representing the sun, moon, horizon, Milky Way and cosmos with 32 stars.
Last but not least, there is a second circle 1.4 km from this site, but nothing is visible as it was not so important to dig out. Or in the case of digging out, they could be compared to each other not to Stonehenge.
In the small museum not so far from the site - mentioned in the article - has very few and limited source concerning this site.
However the Halle museum - where the unique Nebra Sky Disc can be visited - is one of the best and most beautiful museum in Europe, worth visiting. But one full day is hardly enough !
