The founding of the residence is widely recognized as the beginning of today`s Norwegian capital Oslo. The death of Hardrada is considered to mark the end of the Viking Age.

The start of the pilgrim`s route St. Olav`s way in Oslo (Norway) is located at a modern marker stone, which has the inscription “643 km til Nidaros”. The marker stone is situated close to the remains of St. Halvard Cathedral. The end of the way is the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, which was built over the burial site of King Olav II (c. 995-1030).

The small cellar exhibits two opposite stairs and was thought to have been used as baptismal font for the Taurobolium, the bull-blood-based baptism of the Kybele cult.
